Re: Barcelona given 2 transfer periods transfer ban by FIFA
Barcelona midfielder Xavi has been deceived hit out at Fifa for its "disproportionate and unjust" transfer ban.
Football's governing body slapped the Blaugrana with a suspension from activity in the next two transfer windows after identifying irregularities in the signings of 10 young players over recent seasons.
Xavi believes the punishment is excessive, but is confident that Barca's academy can provide enough talent to offset any lack of signings in the coming 14 months should their appeal be unsuccessful.
"It's disproportionate and unjust. We'll try to oppose it," he told a press conference on Monday.
"La Masia does a more than adequate job, it's part of our philosophy. Barca spends many years working properly with youngsters, we look after them.
"We're not isolated from what happens, but we try to stay calm in the dressing room. What happens outside helps to unite us."
Xavi also took a swipe at recent criticism of Sergio Busquets following the midfielder's controversial confrontation with Pepe during the Clasico last month.
Busquets was accused of stamping on the Real Madrid defender, with Spain team-mate Iker Casillas claiming he would give the midfielder "a slap" for his behaviour, and Xavi believes such remarks are unfair.
"We have no doubts over Busquet's action. They're being very unfair to him, even his team-mates in the national team.
"We don't have to defend him, the pictures defend him. It's obvious he doesn't stamp on Pepe."
Barcelona face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie and Xavi has called on his side to "destroy" Diego Simeone's outfit.
"It's a final, a match of heads or tails," he added. "It's very difficult to create chances against Atletico. We have to win the game and that benefits us.
"In front of us are a team we have to destroy. We must try to take the lead and see how they react. We have to be protagonists, to dominate the ball to go on the attack."

Re: Barcelona given 2 transfer periods transfer ban by FIFA
After FIFA handed down sanctions against FC Barcelona and the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) for breaching international transfer and registration regulations for players under 18 years of age, it is now being reported that world football’s governing body has informed the RFEF that they are now investigating Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid as well.
As was mentioned last week by AS, FIFA are investigating the two clubs bringing in and signing underage players without meeting the requirements specified by FIFA.
There are three main points of concern that FIFA is investigating in regards to these international players.
1. If the family of the player changes homes to the city where the club is located, that it not be specifically for football reasons.
2. If the player is moved from another location within the European Union, that they be at least 16 years old.
3. If the player lives within 50 kilometres of the border of another FIFA federation, that the club he signs for is at least the same distance.
However, the new report goes on to add that, FIFA are investigating the clubs on their own, not due to a complaint against the club, as was the case with Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have been aware that they are being investigated for these reasons.

Maybe they were, but chose to ignore it, or perhaps they didn't quite understand it.

FC Barcelona appeal granted suspensive effect
The club FC Barcelona has lodged an appeal before the FIFA Appeal Committee against the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee that sanctioned the club for breaches relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18. Together with the appeal, the club requested that its appeal be granted suspensive effect.
In this respect, the chairman of the FIFA Appeal Committee, Larry Mussenden, took into consideration the sanctions imposed against the club, the complexity of the matter, the start date of the next registration period – 1 July 2014 – and the fact that the FIFA Appeal Committee does not seem in a position to take a decision on the main issue early enough so that an eventual appeal of the club against its decision before the Court of Arbitration for Sport would still be decided before the beginning of the next registration period. Consequently, the chairman of the FIFA Appeal Committee considered that the appeal lodged by the club is to be granted suspensive effect.
In view of the foregoing, the chairman of the FIFA Appeal Committee assures that proper and adequate appeal proceedings will take place and, at the same time, that all rights of the club will be respected.

Well, that means BMG will get the appropriate money for Marc-André ter Stegen in any case, no matter when he signed. That's a relief for them.

I dont understand why people are surprised by this, Barca are appealing the ban so of course it would be temporarily lifted, just like it was in Chelseas case. This sort of thing works on the same premise as bail in the court system which is founded upon the mantra 'innocent untill proven guilty'.

Re: Barcelona given 2 transfer periods transfer ban by FIFA
Innocent until proven guilty is just an American TV drama line. You are really only 'not guilty until proven guilty'. However, the point that fatman makes is correct and this often happens in legal cases. The court has discretion to suspend the punishment pending the appeal.fatman123 wrote:I dont understand why people are surprised by this, Barca are appealing the ban so of course it would be temporarily lifted, just like it was in Chelseas case. Well, they at least have a transfer window to not sign any notable defenders.

What Fatman said, this was always going to happen.
Still expect them to be banned for following 2 windows though.

Re: Barcelona given 2 transfer periods transfer ban by FIFA
I'm not bothered tbh because we allegedly want Alexis and having Barca able to replace him easily is good for us
That being said, it's quite an obvious exploit
'We may be guilty, so we'll appeal anyway and buy whoever we need ASAP then accept the decision'
Surely to properly impose there sanctions, the entire process should be done during the season so the appeal and the suspension of the ban would all take place outside of the Summer window.
