still, I don't think many consider him a Barcelona legend, a legend for sure but not for Barcelona even though it was a great season he did go to Madrid and that's where his allegiance is.awalezelin wrote:Lionel Messi wrote:I wouldn't call Ronaldo a Barcelona legendary hero, he was only there one season.

i can understand where awalezelin is coming from..what he meant to say is that argentinian players who have been club icons/symbols or the main man of their respective teams..or in other words players who carried their respective teams on their shoulders..
and in that respect awalezelin's list is quite accurate..

i meant to say either they are club icons or been the main man in their respective teams in the list he has mentioned..i am not correlating both of them..
for eg..tevez is the main man at city no doubt and absolutely adored by west ham fans for saving them from relegation on the last day of the league ,but he is far from being a club legend..
but perhaps messi potentially can be regarded as a club icon of barcelona..not saying that he carries barca on his shoulders..

Okey, but isn't that applies for all non-European stars and also players from Portugal, Holland, France etc!!! So why just Argentina!

Re: do you realize........
Again, everyone ignores the fact that these Dutch players you guys all mention were already heroes before they left the Netherlands (the Ajax ones that is). Hardly any are the products of foreign clubs (small transfers, made it big abroad).
Hell, many of them even won CLs with Ajax already,
bit strange.

As is the same with the French players listed, Pires, Trezeguet, Platini, Zidane, Henry, et al. were all widely accepted superstars before they left to go abroad

The OP says the thread is abt players who were legends with foreign clubs .
Whether they were already legends at other clubs seems irrelevant .
Players like Riquelme , mentioned in the OP, was already a Boca legend before he moved to Spain.

So you are telling me that the ones on my list are not legends in their respective clubs? I understood what awalezelin was saying or I would have added Robinho, Lucio or Lucas to the list. Here are more Brazilian leegneds in foreign clubs.
Careca- Napoli
Jair- Inter
Aldair- Roma
Julinho- Fiorentina
Cerezo- Roma/Sampdoria
Juninho- Lyon
Ronaldinho- Barcelona

my main intention in this thread is to show the legendary player that if you take him out from that club, would it be the same?
my answer is "no"

Then what is the point of this thread? All great players born in countries outside of the big European leagues (i.e. Germany, Spain, England, Italy) will very likely play abroad at some point in their careers to play in the big four. That isn't exactly a revelation, now is it?
I believe his point was, that these players all acquired their legend status abroad; when thinking of their careers, you think of their time at a foreign club. Di Stefano is a legend for Real Madrid, no Argentinean home club springs to mind. However, when you think of the great Dutch legends, you invariably think of Ajax, which was my point (if they played for Ajax that is).

i agree with you
all argentinian legendary player that i have mentioned earlier, have created a legendary status at their club at that time
not a legendary player that had just played at that club only
