Sam Allardyce will leave West Ham United by mutual agreement immediately after Sunday's final Premier League game of the season away to his former club, Newcastle United.

In a major twist, West Ham had expected to announce this Tuesday that Rafael Benítez would then take over as their manager. But it is understood that deal has now broken down after a dramatic intervention by Real Madrid last week.

Carlo Ancelotti has emerged as an ambitious surprise candidate for the managerial vacancy at West Ham United after Sam Allardyce’s departure was confirmed within minutes of Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United.

West Ham had been expecting to announce the appointment of Rafael Benitez on Tuesday but the former Liverpool manager is now poised to replace Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

Ancelotti said on Saturday that he will take a year out if he loses his job at Real Madrid but West Ham are preparing to test that situation and it is understood that they have already made contact with intermediaries of the Italian.

West Ham refuse to give up hope on appointing Jurgen Klopp

West Ham United will wait a few more days to see whether either Jurgen Klopp or David Moyes is willing to become their new manager before moving on to other candidates.

Although Moyes has repeatedly stated that he wants to stay at Real Sociedad West Ham have not completely given up hope of hiring him as Sam Allardyce’s replacement.

Klopp’s last match in charge of Borussia Dortmund was Saturday’s German Cup Final against Wolfsburg with the coach adamant that he has not got a job lined up. Still the chances of him taking over at West Ham are slim.

The club were hugely unfortunate in that a deal for Rafael Benitez to take over fell through when the Spaniard received an offer to succeed Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. His appointment will be confirmed this week.

West Ham then swiftly turned to Ancelotti who informed them he is planning to have shoulder surgery and take a year off. AC Milan are also trying to hire their former coach.

Intriguingly there is also understood to have been some contact from West Ham with Antonio Conte, the former Juventus coach, but he intends to remain as the coach of Italy until the conclusion of Euro 2016.

It means West Ham will probably turn to another list of candidates which is believed to include Marseille Marcelo Bielsa, Unai Emery, who has just retained the Europa League with Seville, former Besiktas coach Slaven Bilic and Swansea City manager Garry Monk.

Michael Laudrup is interested in a return to the Premier League with West Ham United or Newcastle United.

But Carlo Ancelotti has reiterated that he will take a year out to have surgery if he is sacked by Real Madrid, rather than considering a shock move to West Ham

It is understood, however, that Laudrup would be attracted to both the West Ham or Newcastle jobs if he is approached.

Laudrup appeared to rule out a move to West Ham or Newcastle last week by saying that he was not interested in returning to England with a mid-table club.

But friends of the 50-year-old insist he was not refereeing to West Ham or Newcastle with his comments and is aware that both clubs have great potential

Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio released an update on Roma’s managing situation.

As previously reported, Rudi Garcia will likely not attend the planned management meeting in London tomorrow.

Apparently, Sporting tried to get their current manager, Marco Silva, to mutually agree to terminate his contract. Silva said no, so now he's been sacked with "just cause". All so Jorge Jesus could take over. Benfica have officially ended negotiations with Jesus and he'll now be leaving the club.

That's very quickly gone from mental to farcical.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery has rejected Napoli and West Ham (who offered a €6mil salary) to stay at Sevilla for at least another year.

Anyway, he's tied down to 2017 now, so Sevilla can get some decent compensation for him.
