Have to say his impact impressed me, I was wrong about him, the way he improved our ball retention, his calmness on the ball, the way he always makes himself available for the pass and is never afraid to try a difficult play or pass was exactly what we needed. Plus I thought that last season we needed to improve the concreteness in terms of goals/assists with out attacking players and with attacking player I meant every player that contributes to our attacking phase, strikers and midfielders as well and he truly delivered in that regard. We're going to miss him.

Perhaps that's a deficiency in our roster, the lack of a third quality CM to rest one of Matic/Cesc when needed or to allow Cesc to play further forward. Since Van Ginkel isn't going to cut it at Milan (8th choice CM, behind Essien as well :facepalm:

) let alone Chelsea, maybe we should push for Khedira this january hmm

Mou's favourite, 6 months left in his contract at RM, can see it happening

I don't think we need Mikel anymore, I mean, he's essentially a poor man's Matic, the more defensive of the pivot, the one who shields the back 4 and who drops deep to collect the ball from the CBs and that goes back if too many defenders have gone forward (doesn't happen anymore since Luiz is gone tho). The only difference is that Matic is better at those, he's better at pressing high and winning the ball in favourable positions, he's more ambitious in his passes and more useful in attack given his more powerful shot.

If I were to choose between the two I'd keep Ramires who is different from our other CMs and can be deployed as a winger or fullback as well

I'd argue Mikel is more needed if we bring in a backup for Cesc.

However, I would like to see Ake used more.
