Re: Manchester United 2014/2015 Premier League Season (+ CC & FA Cup)
Our next 5 games are QPR, Leicester, West Ham, Everton and West Brom. What's a reasonable number of points for the team to target in these next 5 games?
Two-week international break coming up so hopefully the team comes back stronger and more used to Van Gaal's style.

Re: Manchester United 2014/2015 Premier League Season (+ CC & FA Cup)
hans, top 4 for us this season- progress That's the height of our ambition this season, anything more is fantastic. We take it on from there next season. It will be akin to emulating Bayern's double that season
And make no mistake about it, after what Moyes has done to the club, and to the players mentally, LVG has a huge task on his hands. I think even he perhaps underestimated the level of crap he has to fix.
The first job he has to fix is to create a cohesive team in synce with one another, and to instill belief which is severly lacking at present. Rid of all the shit, and bring in players of a required standard.
He has to also entrust Woodward to finalize deals for players he wants, also we're doing 2 transfer windows in one- after last summer's botched attempts.
And amidst all that, I just want to enjoy waqtching United play football again. so painfully dull atm.
So all in all, when weighing things up, the scale of the job he has at United is more difficult than the Bayern team he had?

Was great in his first coupe of seasons with us, now he's trash. And he has a new contract
The best con man ever. Horrid footballer, yet captains and plays every game for his national team, plays horrid for United for the past 3 years, yet starts every match and has decieved 3 managers in his time here.
Rewarded with a nice juicy new contract.
Some people are just born extremely lucky.
If there is one redeeming factor about him, it's that any child aspiring to be a footballer, can look at him and be encouraged that they can make it as a pro.

yep, probably, as you're more in a crisis then we were, and the competition in the Prem is a more fierce at the very top.
Fergie leaving is just such a huge thing, it did something to your club that can't really be fathomed yet.
Under Fergie you owned the league for 15 years, just through authority I sometimes think.
Don't think any other top club ever had such a single influential figure for so long.
Fergie always chopped players who thought they got "bigger than the club", but in the meantime Fergie arguably himself got bigger than the club.
So then he leaves and your club suddenly is a few sizes smaller.
That's how it seems to me a little bit.
And that's not even really Moyes fault , even if of course he wasn't up to it.
Still you have added some top players (Mata,Herrera, di Maria), maybe you'll bounce back fast. Who knows.

Di Maria wants a one-two. Rooney automatically starts to look to switch it to Valencia

Re: Manchester United 2014/2015 Premier League Season (+ CC & FA Cup)
Hans, agreed. The whole club from top to bottom is adjusting to life without SAF running things. I feel we shot ourselves on the foot with how much we've messed up the transition. I feel we should have prepared for it better. But's that's another subject matter.
---------------------------------------------------------
Rooney
Di Maria, sorry pal, that's what you'll have to put with it. Players that are programmed by default to pass/ping the ball to Valencia.

Re: Manchester United 2014/2015 Premier League Season (+ CC & FA Cup)
Premier League Squad announced
United (* = homegrown): Ben Amos*, David De Gea, Anders Lindegaard; Jonny Evans*, Phil Jones*, Rafael*, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling*, Marnick Vermijl*; Anderson, Daley Blind, Michael Carrick*, Angel Di Maria, Marouane Fellaini, Darren Fletcher*, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard*, Juan Mata, Davide Petrucci*, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young*; Radamel Falcao, Wayne Rooney*, Robin van Persie.
Blackett, Januzaj, Wilson, Shaw don't have to be included because they are under 21
Petrucci is a interesting inclusion, a player that has sort of fallen back in the academy as a prime talent due to injuries...was lots of hype a few years ago before the injuries

Petrucci was in the squad last season as well, he didn't play. Just there to fill in the gaps, like Ben Amos. Unless there's an injury crisis of course.

Nice squad. I hope we'll have the chance to see Lingard playing; he is gifted and I believe there is a lot of potential in him. He may become a first team player in a few seasons.
He was one of our best players in the past 3 pre-season tours. I just don't understand why Moyes didn't use him.

Yeah, Lingard's debut came a season too late. In fact, his 12-13 pre-season was better than 13-14 pre-season but van Gaal showed more faith in him. Unfortunate injury, hopefully he comes back stronger.

What are your predictions now after the transfer window?
In my opinion we will fight to finish on the 4th place.

Top 4, because the system will take time to learn and our team is low on confidence. I do believe this team has a lot of quality though more than will be shown this season. I really don't understand claims that we've only improved our attack or that Liverpool have had a better window than us.

Re: Manchester United 2014/2015 Premier League Season (+ CC & FA Cup)
bought a CB, LB, and DM....didn't improve our defence somehow tho, not to mention go rid of 2 of our biggest liabilities last season in defence in Evra and Ferdidnand...no disrespect but they were awful last yea
people just distracted by the Falcao, Di Maria, Herrera transactions

I can't believe that there are people suggesting that Liverpool had a better transfer window than us.
This happens because I am not reading anymore threads from the general section or other clubs' subforums.

Re: Manchester United 2014/2015 Premier League Season (+ CC & FA Cup)
I think our defensive problems are exaggerated as well, no doubt we have them but we only conceded two goals more than Arsenal last season. We have now got a better manager who will improve us defensively, this will take time while the players learn the system. Rojo and Shaw are upgrades, and Jones has started well. If Rafael can keep fit now, I think we're good. Blind as well should be a big upgrade, the worst part was midfield cover.

Petrucci's contract has been terminated according to Di Marzio, and he's going to join CFR Cluj. Good luck to him, the leg break slowed down his progression.
Mata has also confirmed that it was only cramp, that's why he came off against Burnley and there's nothing to worry about.
