Seriously throw the frickin kitchen sink at VIDAL. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RODGERS.
Conte is gone this is our shot to get a truly world class player in this window.
Just imagine Reus and Vidal with the liverbird upon their chests. We'll walk the league.

That'd just be like Arsenal signing Ozil. Signing a star for the sake of it. not in the position we are stacked with and have already bought 2 players in this window already.
If we want to sign a star, it's all about Varane/Reus.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
We're never getting Varane.
Vidal is improvement on our starting CM so I'm all for it. It may not be a pressing need but it sure as hell makes us CL contenders if we improve the defense. Would actually allow us to play a double pivot for a change as well.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
I would love us to have Vidal but if an opportunity comes to sign some other WC player for the final third, I would better go for it. I think we can manage without Vidal but not without the attacking third talent. It seems highly unlikely that we will make two such signings such as Vidal and Reus

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
We could play a double pivot with Henderson and Allen/Can and be just as effective. We need attackers and defenders more than midfielders.

Possible, but he did break a few signings before they were official on his twitter before (going through his feed) and he has quite a few followers (probably bots, but still). No different than most of the newspapers reporting "rumours" lately.
I certainly find it much more likely than Reus coming here.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
So we've basically given up on signing Alberto Moreno over 4m pounds or so (and somehow couldn't get the Aspas deal to work in our favour), so Swansea's Ben Davies has emerged as the club's new top LB target, according to a number of reliable sources including The Liverpool Echo and The Telegraph.
Would be a back-up to Enrique initially, I guess. Hopefully Enrique's fitness and form are better since the long break than they were before it.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
Given that the generally reliable sources have reported that we ended our interest in Shaqiri once Markovic looked like it was done, and that we've shown NO interest in Reus, I'd say it's much more likely that neither are currently being pursued by the club, to be honest.El Cujo wrote:Possible, but he did break a few signings before they were official on his twitter before (going through his feed) and he has quite a few followers (probably bots, but still). I'm ok with Davies. He's got strong potential and can add to the little Welsh contingent we've got going. Hopefully they bust out some money for a strong attacker and centreback and we're set.

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
The most likely centerback still appears to be Lovren, even with Southampton's continued resistance.
I'm honestly not sure what people are expecting in terms of attacking signings though. Top names aren't exactly available in numbers at the moment, and I get the feeling that a signing of someone from the next level down (in the 20m range) will disappoint many. On top of that, we already have 5 or 6 players who will be expecting/looking to get regular starts and plenty of game time... another top attacking signing holds the potential to cause stress within the squad.

I hope we try to sign Marcos Rojo, would bring defensive stability we lack from our fullbacks.

I have slight fear that we just might color Markovic as the Suarez replacement and burden the lad with all the expectations and be done with any further big name signings. . .

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
Ben Davies is fine because his name is not Bertrand, right?? I am OK with it
For final third we need 5-6 players...we have currently Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana, Suso and Markovic. Not considering strikers in the list because I am expecting both Coutinho or Lallana (may be even Suso) to go in MF in few of the games so i should balance itself and also Borini goes in the list of strikers because till now we have not signed any striker; so basically we will have only 2 wide players Marko and Sterling.
Strikers: Studge, Borini und Lambert
@Red, I think we still need min. one more signing for the attacking dept...either a striker or any Hames or any Reus

Re: Summer of 2014: Part 2
I think the departure of Suarez has put some non-essential focus/drive to strengthen our attack. While the departure of Suarez definitely warrants some strengthening of our attack, it's the back-line that needs primary focus in the shape of a quality LB.
I think Lovern will be an absolute waste as he will be in no way an upgrade over Skrtel or Agger. If we are serious about strengthening our CB, we should be looking at players like Subotic, Hummels (not specifically those particular names but players with comparable quality).
Another thing that puzzles me is that why aren't we targeting other LB options as, it seems, fund isn't any constraints and quality seems to be our main criteria.

All a smoke screen so we can sign Ricardo Rodriguez and Marco Reus.
