Re: The Bundesliga Thread
It should be 3 points... Again... I'm so disappointed and pissed off, another *bleep* idiot with whistle, why he's still alive? Another stolen points by referee (before with Villarreal). And this action with Raffael miss...

Re: The Bundesliga Thread
Fantastic move.
Keller while a good squad manager was completely out of his depth at this level tactically as injuries could not mask how utterly poor and narrow-minded he was tactically.
Di Matteo on the other hand while not aesthetically inspiring in his football will bring a tactical nous to which a hungry Schalke side direly need along with Champions League experience, given his historic win with Chelsea that night in Munich.
Will be watching and supporting Schalke until he remains.

Di Matteo is grown in Deutsche Schweiz, ( Kanton Schaffhausen ) , so he won't have problems to settle in with German language etc
Probably this will be the only time in my life to not hate the Schalke 04.

Surprise. German manager replaced by foreign manager (also the manager responsible for winning a CL title vs a German team at their own home), Germans on this forum not pleased by the move similar to the Pep Guardiola manager.
Grain of salt.
Nobody is mourning Keller's sacking.

Re: The Bundesliga Thread
Well, on the other hand, Jens Keller managed to lead Schalke to the CL twice in a row, plus he integrated quite a lot of their own academy's youth players, two feats that need to be addressed, too.
I'm curious whether Roberto di Matteo will continue the integration of academy players - and whether he will be more successful than Keller in the end.
Schalke were as unpredictable with practically all coaches in the past, so blaming Keller alone for Schalke's inconsistency is a bit rich. Maybe the Schalke board should look at themselves, too, for a change. This is the 14th coach sacking since September 2004 and this is a bit telling, if you ask me.

Which "Germans on this forums" said they are not pleased with the move? And who of those same were not pleased with Guardiola?
If you're insinuating nationalist bias you need to ground it on more than nothing at all.
I don't care for Keller either way, I wasn't convinced he was up to it, but then it's always the same with Schalke - the way they treat managers it's hard for managers to be up to it in the first place. Keller was being undermined for a year now by the behaviour of the board.
So excuse us but if Schalke fire another manager and rationalize it with the need for more "stability" (as Heldt said), we are having a healthy laugh.
Other than that, Di Matteo is a likeable guy, maybe he can get Schalke to park the bus and fluke their way out of the CL group lol, but you don't really want to tell us he is the tactical genius Schalke have been missing.

I guess any team that gets him would have to agree on a fee with Mainz, I'm pretty sure they'd be happy to receive a modest one.
Tuchel seems intent on taking a year off, taking a page out of the Pep playbook.

People in charge of Schalke since 2000:
Huub Stevens (09.10.1996 - 30.06.2002)
Frank Neubarth (01.07.2002 – 25.03.2003)
Marc Wilmots (26.03.2003 - 30.06.2003)
Jupp Heynckes (01.07.2003 – 15.09.2004)
Eddy Achterberg (16.09.2004 – 27.09.2004)
Ralf Rangnick (28.09.2004 – 11.12.2005)
Oliver Reck (12.12.2005 – 03.01.2006)
Mirko Slomka (04.01.2006 – 13.04.2008)
Mike Büskens (14.04.2008 – 30.06.2008)
Fred Rutten (01.07.2008 – 26.03.2009)
Mike Büskens (27.03.2009 – 30.06.2009)
Felix Magath (01.07.2009 – 16.03.2011)

Ralf Rangnick (21.03.2011 – 21.09.2011)
Seppo Eichkorn (22.09.2011 – 26.09.2011)
Huub Stevens (27.09.2011 – 15.12.2012)
Jens Keller (16.12.2012 – 06.10.2014)
Roberto di Matteo (07.10.2014 - ???)
Okay, there were some very short-time caretakers, too - but mind you, Jens Keller originally was supposed to stand in for only a few weeks, too (he was Schalke's U17 coach when he was asked to stand in for Stevens until a proper solution would be found) - so his comparative longevity was more than astounding.

Re: The Bundesliga Thread
well as RWO said sometimes a couple of the changes are actually just one change.
They fire their manager and then the assistant manager/youth team coach etc takes over until a new big name manager is found.
That's why you have Büskens 2 times and Eichkorn 2 times for very short spells.
The ridiculous thing of course is that they could have just given Büskens a proper chance in the first place, since he's a club legend.
But not Schalke - always aiming for more than they are.
I wish Di Matteo luck and success, I actually would like the Bundesliga top clubs to be more consistent, but we've seen it too many times before with Schalke and they always manage to mess it up.

btw, is it safe to say that since Eichkorn has stopped being Magath's assistant, Magath's career has been finished?

The more you actually have to admire Jens Keller for staying 22 months, considering he was just meant to be a caretaker for few weeks until someone else was found, too XDHapless_Hans wrote:They fire their manager and then the assistant manager/youth team coach etc takes over until a new big name manager is found.

Re: The Bundesliga Thread
That is true, but at the same time that's also why the board never really stood behind him, he was a dead man walking from the beginning. He walked pretty far as a dead man, I give you that.rwo power wrote:The more you actually have to admire Jens Keller for staying 22 months, considering he was just meant to be a caretaker for few weeks until someone else was found, too XDHapless_Hans wrote:They fire their manager and then the assistant manager/youth team coach etc takes over until a new big name manager is found.
