Patrick Vieira Retires

Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has retired from professional football.

The World Cup winner has called time on his playing career at Manchester City to accept a new position as the club's Football Development Executive. Vieira's new role will include mentoring City's young players.

The 35-year-old made 406 appearances and scored 33 goals for Arsenal during a nine-year spell at Highbury.

He won the Double in 1998 and 2002, lifted further FA Cups in 2003 and 2005 and captained the 'Invincibles' side to an unbeaten Premier League campaign in 2003/04.

Vieira's final touch for Arsenal clinched the Club's most recent trophy - the 2005 FA Cup - and he went on to enjoy further success with Juventus and Internazionale in Italy before returning to England with Man City.

Forget about the fact he might be joining Manchester City as a coach. Patrick Vieira in a geunine legend for Arsenal. One of Wenger's first buys when he first took charge, he developed under his guidance to become the dominant midfield player we all came to know and love him as. It's fitting, in a way, that Vieira's last act as an Arsenal player was to win us the F.A. Cup.

If younger people have only seen him in Italy or Man City, have probably missed one of the greatest midfielders in modern football

Hes the best midfielder ive seen in my life in the PL, The most complete midfielder. There were no better then him, and doubt there will be better then him.

He was something different, one of a kind. He had everything in him. Thats what made him unique. In his prime he was unstoppable, litteraly. We dominated games like it was nothing with him in the team. Since 96 we always finished 1st or 2nd with him in the side. Cant be a co-incidence can it ?

There is a reason why wenger calls him his best signing over henry.

To be honest the whole team rocked big time back then

True legend, went out in style with the penalty kick against Utd., he kept the team together in times of desperate needs, hopefully we get a testimonial played for him because he deserves it!

I really wished he stayed here for longer because he was the perfect role model for the younger players and I hope to see him back again sometime in the near future!!

As much as I hate him, This is a sad day. He was an amazing player.

During his time at Arsenal he was the best there was. His legacy could be questioned for turning down Wengers offer to stay at Man city.

I'm sure if Arsenal give him a good offer later in his coaching career he would come back. Imagine Adams, Bergkamp, Henry, and Vieira all on the same coaching staff

Well, transfer wise it's hitten so many it's just impressive. Sahin, Coentrao and Altintop to Madrid have happened. Neuer to Bayern has happened. Lamela to Italy and Sanchez to Barca have happened... many more, and like 6 months before the transfer season.

There are some extreme cases, like Xavi as Madrid coach, but yeah
