Re: Diego Costa is legit
Would be surprised if Spain ever reach their 08-12 heights. Xavi made Spain happen. They either build it around lesser players like Fabregas or Koke or they just play it like any other international team. But Since Spain's style is now "passing football" they will never go against it to suit someone like Costa.

it's ridiculous that they're pigeonholing themselves in this " style " when they actually have the right players to play some highly efficient direct football.
heck, with the players they have they can experiment with any style they please.

Re: Diego Costa is legit
Even Barca is playing so much more direct in comparison to Spain these days. It's as if Spain still employ the exact same tactics from 2010 but all the players move the ball around 50 % slower and can't retain it long enough in advanced areas. An eye sore. To top it all off Casillas is clowning around like Valdes in his worst days and Costa doesn't fit. The fullbacks are also chit.
I'd actually like to see alexjanosik comment on this game.

Re: Diego Costa is legit
Didnt watch the game, but dont feel I have to. No rocket science is needed, just need to watch any successful Costa performance and watch Spain generally speaking...to see the issue.
Costa cant do anything without space to run behind into. Dont have anything else, has to run into channels and run over the top to chase balls.
Play with Spain, there is no space to run into. The want to keep the ball, they want to get up the pitch gradually.
Even though they are lost in their style (similar to Barca under Roura I would say) and dont keep possession high up the pitch, but deep in midfield...they still have the same players with the same ideas. They arent going to knock it long into space for Costa to fight for a 50-50. If and when Costa doesnt get in from it, that means they will actually have to defend without the ball, which is something they are comically bad at.
Its nobody's fault really. Costa is who is he, a limited player only useful in the correct conditions (not the only player like this, better players than him have had the same affliction) and many of the Spanish team are who they are and play the way they have done.
The problem is what was said right at the start, Costa dont fit the team and never should have joined the team.

Re: Diego Costa is legit
Guys it's 6 freaking games. Messi and Ronaldo have gone on way longer streaks of being poor for there national team.
The guy is used to playing in system's at every team he's been on basically since he was a teenager which are night and day to this Spain system. And at the world cup he was just thrown to the wolves so I don't see how you can judge him there as the whole team was bad. I mean no one could fix that mess.
Spain needs an entire reboot, the problem is VDB knows they will qualify doing it his way. He is way too loyal to certain players and his system. I mean if people watched the game today instead of just being shocked after seeing the score line and blaming Costa, no one was having much fun out there or putting in great shifts.
I mean VDB is spoiled for choice. And when a team doesn't play up to the immense potential it's generally the manager that's the issue and needs to go.
How Costa is supposed to ride in on his white horse and fix all of the issues with this Spain team is beyond me. Its not his fault they can't keep a clean sheet anymore which used to be child's play for them.
I mean did people really expect Spain to be the same team after they ripped out one of the best midfield's of all time, prime David Villa, Prime Casillas, Prime Puyol etc.
That's the whole spine of the team, they have to learn how to play as a group again.
I said it a long time ago and I will say it again, Pep deserves a lot of credit for a lot of those trophies Spain hauled in. That was basically his team and system out there as some of the games they had like 7/8 Barca players on the field at a time (Pique, Puyol, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Pedro, Villa). In the 2010 World Cup final they started 7 Barca players.
That kept the ego's in check and all the issues this national team had for decades of underachieving and infighting with players from different squads went away because of the Barca contingent.
That's gone now and you can't blame this all on Costa, this was going to happen with or with out him. What, do you people want Torres up front or something because that's a prime VDB move.

For reasons I have already explained countless times.farfan wrote:great leader is avoiding this thread like the plague
Why should I bother explaining myself to people who just twist my words and lie constantly? I have tried to explain my posts but it just gets construed as "mole thinks he's crap " so why should I bother.
Got much better things to do with my time
Dude, just stop.
Twisting your words huh. You said flat out he couldn't play in many other system's and specifically in Chelsea's system. You even said he would "Flop Hard" at Chelsea Here's your quote (the second one saying he couldn't play in Chelsea's system)
I agree with the Falcao comparison but we all know Falcao is crap at that.
Which is why i said he needs to pick his next club very carefully although he's more well rounded outside the box than Falcao he's still very limited IMO and wouldn't lend well within Chelsea's tactics personally.
No one is twisting your words. You went into the kiddie pool head first in that thread and now your trying to blame other people. Pretty lame.

I totally agree with you but I'd say Spain would have to change their tactics to be more direct. The simple fact that Xavi retired mean Spain can't play the same now.

Amazing how important confidence is for strikers. Costa in a Chelsea shirt buries that chance. All round play has been excellent regardless.

Re: Diego Costa is legit
He had a glaring miss that showed his lack of confidence for Spain but I think his late goal will take a lot of weight off his shoulders and he'll start scoring for NT now.
I was impressed with his link-up today, especially with Paco. It seems like they can be a good partnership if Spain continue to play with 2 up front. I think he played well today when he got the ball. The timing of his runs were excellent. He's not as one dimensional and limited as many people say.. he played well today tbh and made the correct decisions in the run of play.
