Six players of that starting XI weren't at the club last season, three of the back four and all three of the attack. This could be amazing or a disaster.

@morty Could be a recipe for either. And the bench, I'm not sure what promising is but it goes thus; Jones, Enrique, Lucas, borini, Sterling, and Lambert.

Well, quite simply we are not being match for Lambert's genius.

Finnish commentator mentioned this stat just before half-time: Liverpool have 200 more passes than Villa, but ten less than Villa in the attacking third.

Honestly wtf happened, stop talking about this bogey BS, none of our players could penetrate a bus today, i also don't get why we waited til the 60th min to make a change when it was needed at HT.

In the end, just like @Arty predicted, it was amazingly disastrous. We had 81mins to change things but we didn't or couldn't. Sooo bad

Yeah, it was awful from start to finish. A few ways to analyze our failure:

- We had 75% possession, yet shots on goal were 1-1.

- The summer reinforcements we fielded in this game had an accumulated transfer fee value of about £85m. The accumulated value of summer signings Villa fielded in this game was about £2.7m.

- Markovic was more often playing striker than Balotelli. I don't know whether it's the players fault or Brendan's, but that just looked silly to me, that Balotelli was so often dropping back or drifting out wide to collect the ball when it should've been obvious he was our striker.

- Paul Lambert's genius is just too strong.

What ever it was, we were shit on a stick and deserved nothing from that game.

Oh, also, Lovren does not, I repeat, does not look like a CB who should be playing for us. Totally lost Senderos in the corner that resulted in their goal and is creating a habbit of being the closest defender or ours when we make mistakes that lead to goals.

Also, yeah, how bad is this, we were trailing at home against Aston Villa for 81 minutes but managed just one shot on target. I don't even...

it was one of those shock losses at home for us. We were so pathetic and playing Coutinho, Marko and Lallana and Balo together for the first time, so they lacked understanding ; so could not produce anything.

Amazing performance from our Southampton duo today. Totally worth the 45m invested in them.

Very Happy Think it's sarcasm. Gotta say Lovren didn't look good, dude was often out of position so his height advantage didn't count much.

Absolute terrible performance, but we're always soooo bad vs. Villa at home . Been the case for 6 seasons now. My most feared fixture of the season. Glad it's outta the way.

4231, 433 can both go die. We should start EVERY GAME with a diamond. I don't care if it's Leyton Orient at home or Barca away...4-4-2 diamond is the formation that made Liverpool a fearsome team again and we should play it all the time. Hope Brendan learnt from his mistakes (freaking Lambert always has his number Proud )

Lambert keeps finding Rodgers out rofl

This game in a few words:

We couldnt break them, Conceded of a set piece. Lovren is average atm, We can't play with one striker upfront.

I don't know man, if they keep playing like this I think they can help guide us to a top 8 finish too.

Nothing against Lallana, he's a decent player but we spent 25m on a "squad player" really. Young inconsistent Coutinho >>>

Lovren has always been average, Lyon tried to get rid of him a few seasons ago.
For £20 million, you want a somewhat more complete defender.

How many games has Lallana played for us?

How many games this season has Coutinho played well for us?

I still see Lallana the best of our signings after Moreno. Balo needs to step up.

Balo was fine. Most of the team was fine actually. We just weren't clinical and had chances to score but couldn't put them away. It happens. City just lost to ****ing Stoke at home. Some of the people on this board love their knee-jerk and picking on players. Lovren was not even bad lol.

Still a young and inexperienced team. Peaks and valleys. Conceding a flukey scramble on a set piece and then not scoring on a bunch of chances happens. I do think that we need to be a bit more clinical though because against City it was the same story...lots of chances but no finish.
