I had forgotten how funny it was. If I remember correctly during German live TV the commentator actually burst out laughing.

This award is a joke. I'm surprised people still take it so seriouly. In a sport of 11 different position, there is one BEST player? Laughing

How precisely did Klose manage to get nominated let alone nearly win? He practically took the first half of the year off in order to remain fresh for the World Cup. It was a joke in Rome that Klose was due back from injury on the 12th of June. Laughing

Whilst it's a huge moment, he did most of the heavy lifting for it in previous years. Hardly deserving of so many votes ahead of the likes of Mueller, Lahm or even Boateng.

I don't really disagree, that's just the only explanation I can find. If it's an award voted by the public I very much doubt many Germans are aware of how Lazio is doing in Serie A and will predominantly know him from the WC. Or they could be voting to honor his career rather than this particular year.

This was the Fan Club NT who set up the vote, so it wasn't about "best player", but "most popular player". Maybe Manu Neuer should start posing in undies after all? hmm
