Klopp is doing worse imo. No need to start these threads so soon.

Btw, how is Gundogan doing? I noticed he came back

Jürgen Klopp works for Dortmund who don't want to get rid of him. Better ask in the Bundesliga thread for Ilkay Gündogan. --> http://www.goallegacy.net/t36200-the-bundesliga-thread

Actually, after initial bemusement, I now feel Di Matteo might be a good choice for Schalke.

Let's face it, Schalke never was famous for exciting football, the only times they did feel like somewhere close to a top team was when they were grinding out 1:0s consistently with Stevens.

If Di Matteo can bring stability, that will be a good thing for Schalke.

I thought the fact that I knew RWO was the author of this thread solely by looking at the title of the thread was really hilarious. Laughing

Well see how he progresses. So far he's done well to beat Sporting at CL.

If he shuns the kids from Schalke's Knappenschmiede like Max Meyer, you can't expect me to be amused. :coffee:

So... Schalke convincingly defeated in the CL by Sporting CP this week and in the Bundesliga against Freiburg, too, both times playing completely without verve and conviction.

So much for RDM's building a solid defense and playing attacking football...

He won't get fired by Horst Heldt i can guarantee though. This is Heldt's last shot. So if Di Mateo has to go, Heldt will be fired at the same time.

He coaches just the Schalke 04 , not even Dortmund. It is normal he can sometimes lose . If they often sack managers, basically there is a reason
His overall score is positive so far

Well, Jens Keller was fired after reaching the CL twice in succession, just after he led Schalke to the best "Rückrunde" (part of the season after the winter break) they ever had in their history and after he convincingly won the Ruhr Derby against Dortmund (Schalke's most important match of the season) - just because people claimed that Schalke didn't play attractively enough and that Keller lacked charisma.

So you can imagine that this doesn't exactly bode well for a prolongued stay of RDM (and likely Horst Heldt, too)...

It will be Horst Heldt + Di Mateo , powered by Clemens Tönnies
But I think it will take time, probably in February/March

Freiburg's win less so... But the real problem is that now Horst Heldt and even RDM claim that the current bad state of Schalke is still Jens Keller's fault, completely ignoring how Schalke managed to fight out draws against Bayern and Chelsea and won the Revierderby, too, and put up a much better showing with more injured players than the team gives right now.

Yes and this is an evidence for me that the team didnt follow Keller anymore. They played good against the top teams because oft their honor and because every team is motivated against those Teams.
But Keller was not able to motivate them against smaller sides. Keller lost his authority. I guess it had something to do with Boateng changing the tactics by himself during a match.

Well, I just saw the Spieltagsanalyse at Sport1 where the problems of Schalke against Freiburg were pinpointed and in the analysis it looked even worse than I remembered from watching on Saturday.

Especially the defense was a total Hühnerhaufen (=flock of chicken blindly scrambling around), no one even bothered to run into open spaces and the attack was completely isolated as well. There was no organisation to be seen whatsoever and poor Ralf Fährmann had to suffer from the incompetence of his colleagues on the field. I'm not sure what RDM told the team to play, but they obviously didn't listen or didn't understand and after the break there was no improvement either.

Well, actually I want the sports director Horst Heldt being sacked even more, but if RDM will be sacked, Heldt will be kicked out in one package with him.

The gall of sending Jens Keller to a Sky talk show on Sunday evening where Keller was still certain he'd be kept in his job as Heldt said so even the day before, while Heldt was already making everything clear with RDM on the very same Sunday, is classless beyond belief.

Actually Schalke told Keller it would be better not to go to the Sky talk in the current situation, but Keller decided on his in to go there anyway.
