hmm.. may not be your typical drama and they are not sci fi , but if you haven't yet , see the movie , Eastern Promises , or Filth. Both very dark , 2nd has great humour too , tho it gets a bit over the top at times .. Laughing Both highly recommended movies.

drama & sci fi ... have you seen , Moon ? Chances are you have seeing you seek drama & sci fi and this has both . If you haven't , it's well worth your time.

Saw Birdman finally...

I'll say two things from the get go

1. It's a good movie (originality, tone, the way it's shot that makes it seems like it's a just one long take, etc)
2. I personally did NOT enjoy it. It's a film I would never watch again or rate in any of my top favorite lists or anything.

Performance wise the star-powered cast are all great. There wasn't a single bad performance. Keaton was great and probably deserves his Oscar nomination (but not over Gyllenhaal Mad )

I had to read about the ending as I'm sure everyone who watched the movie did. I had some ideas on what happened at the end and the ambiguity basically leaves the viewer to decide how they want the film to end.

My criticism is that it's just a dull movie. I was bored a bit throughout the movie. Not the sort of entertainment I find enjoyable, but I'm sure some people will and like I said it is a good movie.

I just watched Time Lapse and I really liked it. It was a great scifi flick.

I also watched Vice with Bruce Willis and Thomas Jane and it was a huge pile of shit.

I watched them back to back and it's insane to think about the difference in budgets of both films.

Yo Elitedam broski, watch Coherence if you loved Time Lapse.

It's similar sort of low budget scifi that's surprisingly entertaining.

Non relatable for me. Of course I met lots of new people and they became close friends but the people I was super close wit, I never lost touch and are as close as we were before.

WHIPLASH     WHAT A GOAT MOVIE

JK Simmons absolutely annihilated the performance. I loved Mark Ruffalo especially in Foxcatcher and Norton, Ethan Hawke, and Duvall were all fantastic but my goodness they stand no chance at the Oscars. JK Simmons imo delivered the best performance of 2014 and I don't just mean in the supporting role. I mean all acting performances (supporting, main, standby or otherwise) were all inferior to his performance in 2014. Just WOW.

Oh and Miles Teller is amazing

9.5/10. I think it's my favorite movie of 2014.

Well, that's good for you. In primary school I really didn't have much close friends, just friends. In more recent years, I've had two really close girl friends but since school ended, haven't seen them since. Laughing
Haha, so for me friends have always been a come-and-go thing. Think that's relatable for a lot of people my age nowadays.

I've had some of my best friends all my life also. Couldn't really feel that whole mom is drawn to alcoholics like flies to a turd thing. Bothered me. Also those bullies that featured 1 second was a useless scene.

Watched The Imitation Game   Cumberbatch is goat   Keira Knightly   So is everyone else  Great performances. Great story. Great movie.
8.5/10

Also saw The Hobbit: Bo5A. Not even close to the Return of the King but meh I didn't expect it to be close to that masterpiece. Overall LOTR way way way >>>> Hobbit trilogy.

My question is which one was the 5th army? (we had dwarfs, elves, humans and orcs).
8/10

Don't call me James wrote:Top 10 2014 No particular order (only films that I have seen so far)

Gone Girl
Fury
Interstellar
Nightcrawler
Guardians of the Galaxy
Boyhood
Edge of Tomorrow
X-Men Days of Future Past
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Captain America: Winter Soldier

I still haven't seen some that probably would be on there like Whiplash or The Hobbit or the Imitation Game or Inherent Vice or Birdman etc.

And I may have also forgotten some. Foxcatcher barely missed out. I also enjoyed Predestination and Nonstop plenty so honorable mention there.

So Whiplash and The Imitation Game both get into my top 10 for 2014. Removing Interstellar and one of Winter Soldier/Edge of Tomorrow.

Also saw Birdman and Hobbit: Bo5A but they don't get into the top 10.

Going to watch Birdman and Imitation Game in the cinema these upcoming weeks. Gonna be great ride.

Am I the only one that doesn't get the Cumberbatch crush that women have? He looks like a cactus.

Amazing *bleep* actor though. Just saw a bbc tv movie with him and Hardy. Hardy was GOAT as always, going crazy in the nude. Not a Fassbender nude performance though.

I am yet to watch those films as well. Sad Birdman, I Game, Nightcrawler, Whiplash, Foxcatcher... damn.. All to do for me.

As it stands, Calvary remains my 2014 best film pick.

I'm going to erase it from my memory and pretend it doesn't exist. An insult to one of the GOAT franchises.

Got around to watching Birdman and Fury

Michael Keaton was indeed superb. Really liked Naomi Watts as well in this one. Edward Norton was so unlikable in this movie, but that's why he's one of the great actors of his generation. Great performance from him.

I'm not sure I would call Fury an epic, but it was certainly a very solid war movie and I loved the realism it portrayed. You could tell the actors went through sheer hell just to bring this story alive and it came off quite well. Not as epic as Saving Private Ryan (not off by much though), but it had elements of the Pianist, Platoon, and even a bit of Full Metal Jacket going on, all excellent period pieces themselves. Brad Pitt gets the plaudits obviously, but the 2 who stood out for me were undoubted Shia LaBoeuf and Jon Berthal. Loved Bible and Coon-Ass as characters. Perhaps the liveliest of the bunch for me.
