True. He needs all the help he can get....... so then he can get 100% of the credit.

I agree, the question should be why does Messi continually flop for Argentina?
Messi didn't flop at CA. He set up an open net for Higgy in the 90th min at 0-0 and perfectly executed his penal in the penalty shoot out. I feel like there's being asked too much of Messi.
Scoring a one on one goal against Neuer like he does week in week in week out at Barcelona is not too much too ask. I agree though that he is no Maradona so people can't expect him to carry the NT when he doesn't have the ball all the time.
jibers pls get a life and forget about Messi

No..... LeBron actually gets called out for playing poorly and is STILL criticized to this day for his past performances.
This with Messi........ it's outrageous.

We talk about "Messi standard" here. comparison with maradona is not fair. Messi is the ultimate club player who plays 60 games then without rest has to play NT tournament.
For comparison Maradona played 30 club games before WC 86. Messi played 60 games before Copa America 2015. how can he be ready for national team?

There's no reason to talk about "Messi"-standard, because no other player in history were judged by it.ahmad25 wrote:We talk about "Messi standard" here. Re: The Lionel Messi Appreciation Thread & Fan Club II
How is creating a bunch of chances for you mates who miss them your fault? Messi is marked by 2-3 players all the time, he needs the help of his teammates (Neymar and Suarez can provide that) but with donkeys like Di Maria and Higuain he's all alone.
It's not Messi's fault that Higuain executed his penalty like an idiot running with eyes closed and hitting as hard as he could.
Was Maradona marked as tight as Messi is these days? I don't think so.

WC86 SF vs Belgium
Start of the attack, 5th lowest Belgian player is actually walking towards Argentine goal rather than running back to defend, Maradona jogs from midfield to edge of the box, and full 10 seconds goes bye from from the start of attack to when he gets the ball and passes it to goal scoring situation. Yet there is still only 4 Belgian players in the picture. Nobody even remotely interested in marking Maradona. You'll not see this in modern game, never mind in the WC-semifinal.
