i remember that game. the spanish the media started comparing him to maradona after that second goal (it was like one of diego's goals. but trust the media to overreact to anything). then florentino and valdano made moves to snap him up. immediately we signed him, i knew it was over for him.....signed for us way too early in his career

I agree completely with what you say, but I also would like to point out that injuries played a part in ruining his career as much as anything. He'd still could have reached his potential after the Madrid stint at Valencia but those injuries Sad

Best for the people, pls, you sound like a washed up politician. We are hated rivals. We are not in the business of holding your hand or being the bigger man. Your loss is my gain, stuff like that. And we both know why Barcelona want the final to be held at the Bernabeu and it certainly isn't for "the best for the people".

Wouldn't the Camp Nou be the more ideal location to celebrate Barcelona's superiority considering that there is a real possibility that the CDR would be played after the UCL final (assuming Barcelona make the final, not actually a sure thing)?!

umm for the record, barcelona have also denied madrid playing the copa final on their turf in the past. so all this acting like madrid are mean spirited isn't new, it goes both ways. barcelona fans know, or rather remember that, which is why i think there's been some relative silence on the issue from that standpoint....its the media and joan gaspart that have been pushing for it....

me personally, i won't mind it being hosted at the bernabeu. its a lot different scenario than say the 2010 ucl. if anything maybe it will serve as a lesson or add some sort of motivation not only to the team but florentino as well.....maybe the rival winning three titles, a pathetic clasico showing aren't insults enough to trigger us to achieve things at all costs

I never heard of such thing that Barca refused Copa final in Camp Nou because RM was finalist, I am sure that at least one of them MARCA or AS would feature such story by now. But, I can see it happen. When RM refused the first time it was ok, they had "reasons". Second, time they still had "reasons". It just happens that Barca goes to copa final almost every year, so it is just easy to poke fun on RM and their "reasons". This year though, it really appears as if they were trying to do anything to stop it and make the "reasons" legit. LOL

they refused to host in the 2003/04 season when we were to play david villa's zaragoza in the cup final. i believe laporta was the president at the time, i think it was his first year. can't remember what exactly his excuse was. and gaspart was ready to oppose in 01/02 when we met super depor; however it didn't matter cos depor didn't want to travel all the way to barcelona to play, and florentino pulled strings to have it at the bernabeau cos of the centenary (move left us with egg on our faces)
