I'm not an expert here, but I don't think any Werder fan would really regard Marco Bode as their best all time player.

If we're talking strikers, the best player for them was Rudi Völler.
In general, I'd think maybe someone like Dieter Eilts, or Mirko Votava, should be regarded a better, and more influential, player in his longevity than Bode, who was decent.

As for Mönchengladbach, Heynckes sure, but maybe Günter Netzer should be a contender too

Chinaglia has the bigger legacy at Lazio imo. Dude got them from Serie B to Serie A and then won the Scudetto. Also worth noting that he left a hero unlike Nesta whose transfer to Milan raised the ire of a lot of Lazio fans.

Personally I rate Rivera like the best ITALIAN player ever so I'd be unbasied about it...

About Maldini-Baresi, yes , I'd say Maldini also because , as you note correctly , some things are changed after '99 and Maldini added 2 CLs

Anyway  , I feel that the Milan fans to have lived both Baresi and Maldini are usually more tied to Baresi than Maldini  the last one is still very loved of course, but I feel Franco just more than him .. of course it has nothing to do with that ridicolous ultras' contestation after Milan-Roma 2-3 ... Probably it depends on fact that Baresi coincides also with the Sacchi era , emotionally more felt than Ancelotti era.

Nesta was the captain of most golden Lazio era, because they didn't win just the Scudetto, also the only 2 European cups of their history.
And he was immense in his contribution.. despite the CFs tend to be advantaged than defenders where there're these tributes.
Surely if Nesta didn't leave Lazio ( but he was obliged to do it, because Lazio would have bankrupted . So Lazio fans can't hate it) he 'd got the same consideration than Totti in Roma. No doubts about it. I was enough shocking to watch him with another kit at that time
