I don't disagree but there weren't too many obvious candidates. Manuel Neuer probably had the best case but in another one of Fifa's gross stupidities during the shambolic Sepp Blatter reign they decided to exclude goal keepers from the list of best players. Another terrible shame in the world cup's best player selection is that the voting starts before the final ends. At least in this one respect Uefa have handled things much better.

Manuel Neuer wasn't Germany's best player though. He wasn't even top 5 in importance simply because he barely had to do anything after quarter finals. German media tried to portray the wrong hero for balondor and no wonder he came last. Germany played a team game and the balondor candidate and goldenball should have gone to the most important player.
