What? Messi would've WC and two CA's too if Higuain finished three sitters. In addition of WCu20 and 3 CWC's Messi also has Olympic gold, which is a FIFA recognized tournament, but didn't include it because they don't give Best Player titles, although Messi surely was the best player there too.

First and probably the only one to hit 50 goals this year, although you never can count Modric out.

Messi has now scored at least 40 goals per year for a decade.

2009 - 41 goals
2010 - 60 goals
2011 - 59 goals
2012 - 91 goals (WR)
2013 - 45 goals
2014 - 58 goals
2015 - 52 goals
2016 - 59 goals
2017 - 54 goals
2018 - 50 goals (one game left)

that's because 4-4-2 is somewhat anglo-centric

it's not called 4-3-3, after all

FourFourTwo are Anglo-centric and I hardly ever care about what they say, but it should not deter from the fact that Varane and Modrić are the biggest frauds of this year's awards.

Both are in the nominations because France and Croatia did well in WC as well as Real Madrid in CL. Which is contrary to individual awards. Even if for the argument's sake we assume that that team glory is relevant, how instrumental were these two players in their teams' success?

To start with Varane, he had a pretty poor year compared to the previous years at Madrid. I can argue that he played a more clinical role in 2016 and 2017 where in in 2018 he made more mistakes than ever and his play wasn't very tidy nor focused. He is undoubtedly France's best CB at the moment but playing CB in a defensive minded team isn't particularly difficult nor it means that his team mates were inferior to him. Why not Mbappé, Pavard or Kante? And is that Van Dijk's fault that Netherlands weren't in the WC?

Regarding Modrić, he did have a good CL, although you can't argue that Ronaldo was not the unprecedented main star in the build up to the final. At WC he wasn't even Croatia's most instrumental player. Rakitić and even Rebić were more involved than Luka, not to mention Modrić missed a penalty that could have lead to Croatia's early exit against Denmark. Don't get me wrong, I am in no way, shape or form saying Rebić is a more talented footballer than Modrić, but he was more instrumental in Croatia's road to the final.

Are you high? Varane was the best CB in 2018 without a doubt.

If Messi can maintain current scoring pace, he's going to pass Pele's career goals in about two years.

Considering a decent percentage of Pele's career goals were self proclaimed and highly questionable in where and when they were scored;

would not be surprised if Messi already has.

Nah, that figure is the official goal amount for Pele, although majority of that was in the regional league. The 1300 or something that Pele spouts consist all kinds of goals, goals in movies etc.

That pass in the 2nd gif is absolute insanity.

He manages to fool 5 players with one pass, it's a shame Suarez didn't finish it because it will be completely forgotten about in a few weeks.
