Yeah the trailer is amazing but it feels like they basically showed the entire movie, like a short film. If anyone hasn't watched it yet, I would suggest that you don't.

Pretty sure all trailers are cut away from the production companies though hmm

Also don't blame Sony. It's not like MCU movies or BvS were any better. The Hulk saving Iron Man bit was so disgraceful. DC movies have picked up ever since the BvS trailer backlash.

Fox are usually good. Wonder Woman has done great. Same with SS (weren't anything positive to show in the last acts).

Some of these marketing companies are disgraceful though. The first trailer for the film my bosses have worked on completely misrepresented the film. But they also have a really hard job trying to sell something without getting to show the best bits.

Recent MCU trailers have been fine. GOTG 2, Doctor Strange, Civil War. I read that Sony is handling the marketing and distribution of the film, so that includes trailers right?

I think some, very few, directors make their own trailers etc. But usually the ones in charge of the marketing basically means they pay for it I think.

The film I'm helping delivering at the moment. My bosses hired an external editor to edit a trailer. They used the footage they was given and made a completely misreprensentation of the film in it. Then we gave notes on improvements and it turned out better.
Producers etc don't make the trailers, but they have the final say in some sort. More in an approval kind of way. Than saying what's to go in. It's such a different thing to make trailers. Huge respect for whoever made those Suicide Squad trailers.
