Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Alexis, Ozil, Cech, Xhaka and Bellerin are the only players I would be legitimately upset if they left. There are some which would annoy me if they left but nothing like these guys.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Wenger increasingly confident he can sign Mbappe:
http://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/transfer-news/kylian-mbappe-arsenal-transfer-news-13226533
You know this will end with Mbappe signing for Madrid and Arsenal going "well, at least we tried" before bigging up Welbeck.
Alternatively, Mbappe signs for £100m. Gets injured for six months, as per the Arsenal rite of passage.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
If Mbappe WERE to join Arsenal, we all can moan about the fact that he would either be stymied by Arsenalesque injuries and flounder, or he'd be so good that the transfer sagas would become unbearable right away.
Let's just re-sign Yaya Sanogo.

No idea why there is so much noise about Mbappe.
Arsenal spending over 100m on a player
A player rejecting Madrid for Arsenal

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
It does seem like Arsenal's interest is at least legit, if ineffectual.
I could see a player "rejecting" an initial overture from Madrid for Arsenal if it meant a guaranteed starting spot for a couple seasons at Arsenal before a guaranteed starting spot at Madrid.
I just don't anticipate a player doing that when he could stay at Monaco, in the CL, anyway. If Mbappe were coming from, like, Auxerre or Lens or something, then I'd be more optimistic.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Yeap pretty much
I do believe there is a bid and no more than that. Lets look at striker options available break down in tier
Tier 1: Mbappe, Dembele, Aubameyang
Tier 2: Lukaku, Lacazette, Morata
Tier 3: Belotti, Berardi, Martial
Tier 4: ( old age & injury but still quality) Diego Costa, Falcao, Sturridge
Tier 1: is probably only available when all big boys around Europe done with their transfer, as long as one of them interested in the players, we won't have a chance
Tier 2: Lukaku is Chelsea bound, Morata I don't want so Laca is only option
Tier 3: 2 Italians will probably stay in Italy, Martial is actually good choice imo but Mou won't sell us and this depends on Morata deal
Tier 4: Only Sturridge and I don't want
So realistically only Laca lol

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
it took teams like Man City few failed off season pursuits to tie up the players they were after. I am happy that we are starting to show our intent finally.
Now, before any one mentions that this is some kind of ploy to have the fans on board, I doubt that is the case. The dissatisfaction of the fans (apparently a minority of us lol ....) has never really effected the sales of the tickets, merchandises, or shirts and it certainly has not effected the growth of our teams popularity either.... so i donno
Sign Mbappe, sign Lemar and tie down Ozil and Sanchez.... lets git'er done!

L'Equipe: Arsenal have made progress on signing Lacazette. Now favourites to sign him. Between them and Atleti.

What do you mean by best suited to? Because i have always seen him as a poor mans Aguero, take that how you will.
Would be a great signing imo, assuming the Mbappe stuff is bs.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
From what I've seen of him (not much) he is incredibly clinical in front of goal. He won't score goals on his own like Alexis, but if you put him through on goal or inside the box he will usually put it in the net. Also he is someone who creates chances for other attackers and has a generally good link-up play (Lyon played some sexy football last year) unlike someone like Aubameyang who is more a classic CF.
If we manage to also keep Alexis and Özil then we have an incredibly dangerous attack.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
previously i had the impression of him being that quick, on the shoulder forward that runs in behind and get on the end of chances
but more recently from what i have seen(still small sample)he impressed as a technical forward that can link play and hold up to play runners around him and therefore more suited for possession based team
but i dont know
which is why im confused
with Ozil/Alexis in 3421 counter attacker like Lukaku/Auba better suited imo

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
If Mbappe is every remotely realistic I'd prefer that, but the money involved and the other clubs competing for him just makes it impossible to me. And spending over £100m on one player would probably mean no more signings, even if we sell a bunch of deadwood.
We have to take the Alexis situation into account as well. If we lose him we'll have to replace a 30-goal player who can dribble and create. That won't be cheap.
Plus a CM and whatever else we might need.
Lacazette for £44m just seems the most sensible move open to us at the moment.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I honestly doubt Wenger will keep the 3421, he will panic back to 4231 after the first bad result.
Which is why it's important to sign another winger because we'll be left with Walcott occupying a place in the first team again.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Even with the 3-4-2-1 our immediate backup in those positions is Iwobi and Walcott, so we could probably do with a winger regardless.
Not Mahrez, though. Think we would need someone who works harder to compliment Ozil and Alexis.

Not a fan of Xhaka-Ramsey in a 4-2-3-1. Would get exposed very quickly against a competent team.
Need to B2B CM for definite this summer. Tolisso would have been great.

Was going to say that, you either stick with what has worked or buy another CM.
Having said that i don't understand why you would change it tbh, it's been working and suits a lot of your better players.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I don't either but Wenger made the switch out of necessity. I think if he has the choice he'd go with the extra attacker every time.
Saying that we need a CM regardless. If Xhaka goes down we'll have no creative CMs on the pitch.
