I guess everyone has their opinions.

Ok, I'll give you Untitled, but HHID and Nastradamus are certified duds.

Edit:
this Curren$y and Dom Kennedy track just dropped, it's pretty dope

The Official Rap Thread part 1 - Page 3 Watch?v=Bz4PnM1Jsto

Check out the Original Dom Kennedy mixtape, and he's got another one dropping soon I think.

I have Nocturnal Rainbows just haven't checked it out yet, but I will.

Did I say that, it's a track that just dropped. It's his newest so I posted it. Check out Original Dom Kennedy or Future Street Drug Sounds.

And 10/16, lol. Hold Down The Block is the best track on the album, besides that there's, Black Republican, HipHop is Dead, Blunt Ashes, Hustlers and maybe 1or 2 I'm forgetting. So 6/7 out of 16.

I think "Carry On Tradition" edges it for best track on the album. The ones you mentioned were all nice, but I felt underwhelmed with "Black Republican".

As for "Nastradamus", it was certainly his weakest album. Tracks like "Come Get Me" and "Family" were great, but he tried to expand his market too much. The seeds were well planted on "I Am", perhaps he should have learned from that.

what I'm thinking right now is that Nas > Jay-Z

agree / disagree ?

My overall opinion is that Jay has the better flow (although not his original style), yet Nas is lyrically on another level.

Having said that, I rate "Takeover" better than "Ether" as the primary diss tracks. "Dont You Know" and "Super Ugly" were both subpar, nothing compared to the "Stillmatic" freestyle.

I don't really consider "Blueprint 2" as a track in the battle, even though it did take target.

I could throw in a few more names, but I still think Jay has earned his spot as one of the big boys. I actually feel his discography isn't that great (many of his albums are too diverse), but his talent from track to track is worthy of the talk.

"American Gangster" had some nice joints on there, but he's well moved on with his career and his content.

Wu-Tang overrated? Not only can they release great albums as individuals, but their group albums are usually top shelf. I shouldn't need to discuss the influence of "Enter the Wu-Tang" on the genre, among others.

I agree that DMX is quality. His first 3 albums were quite good, but his latter efforts did drop in standard by the year.

You mean between Ironman and OB4CL? I definitely take OB4CL, but if you ask me to pick between Supreme Clientele and OB4CL, it's a little tougher.

Man, since I joined the old forum I swear we've discussed LL numerous times and you always post that track lol. Some don't even admit to his longevity and influence in the early days, but I guess they were misled by albums like "Todd Smith" and "10".

Yeah, I was out for about 2 weeks and figured I'd jump back in. Lurked from time to time, but will be sure to catch up on the music thread. First week was a vacation, while this past week was all work. I'll probably still be on and off for a while more.

On topic, I have days where I think "Ironman" is better than Raekwon's effort. Other days, I wonder how I think so but I guess that's why I often have a hard time posting a definite top 5 or top 10.

Everybody goes into the game alone these days, not enough love in this thread or in the industry as a whole for groups who could alternate verses with unbelievable wit and cohesion, something that could take their sound past the barriers of what only one man could do; I'm talking about The Sugarhill Gang, Cypress Hill, NWA.

I actually wasn't that big on "Zone Out", but that shot at Cam was clever. I've been waiting for a Nas / AZ album for years (Dmize will back me up lol), but no one can deny their chemistry. While they collaborate in a different way, I think Jada and Styles are pretty close to them.

I think if "It Was Written" was the debut album and "Illmatic" never existed, Nas would still be heralded as one of the best out from the 90s. I think the album is that good. His pre-Illmatic material is immense too, you can really see where he got the drive for the album.

I think that album is very good, I'd say his 3rd best album.

After the disappointment with "Nastradamus" and the conflict with Jay, he really needed to deliver and he did so.
