Arsenal v Swansea Preview
Arsenal v Swansea, 3pm Saturday 10th September, Emirates Stadium, Premier League
Arsenal made five new signings as the transfer window came to a close last month.
Season starts here
There is a feeling in the air around the Emirates that the real start to the Premier League campaign starts here for Arsenal. A home game against scoreless Swansea, the perceived three points it will bring and then Arsene Wenger's men head into the following games with more confidence. Facing Liverpool and Manchester United in the first three games, on top of a Champions League qualifier against Udinese, a trip to Newcastle, and the Fabregas/Nasri transfer saga certainly took its toll. Though most importantly, the gunners qualified for the 15th consecutive year for Europe's top competition, now the realistic task for the season is staying there, which means either winning the competition or finishing in the top four.
Transfer deadline day provides tonic for fans
Arsenal signed five players in the last two days of the transfer window. Park Chu-Young, Andre Santos, Per Mertesacker, Yossi Benayoun (loan) and Mikel Arteta all agreed to move to the Emirates - in that order. There was a relief amongst most Arsenal fans that Wenger finally got his cheque book out, though some journalists have questioned the quality of the signings. Arteta is 29 years old, Benyoun just missed almost a year through injury, Andre Santos was playing in Turkey, Per Mertesacker is deemed too slow and Park Chu-Young was relegated with Monaco. All these points are true, though the majority of them should bring enough quality and experience to get Arsenal through to January where Arsenal could soon spend again, this time on more first choice targets that were missed out on in the summer.
Scoreless Swansea hoping for first goal
Swansea have begun the season with two draws (0-0's with Sunderland and Wigan) and a defeat (4-0 to Man City). Brendan Rodger's men were full of goals and excitement in the championship last season though they have found life in the Premier League tough. Swansea's next two games after tomorrow are West Brom and Chelsea, both tough opposition, as ever, there are no easy games in England's top flight.
Match Facts
* Arsenal have taken just 13 points from their last 14 Premier League games.
* These sides haven’t met in league competition since 1982/83, a year Arsenal did the double over the Welsh side, winning both games 2-1.
* Arsenal have never lost three consecutive home games in the Premier League.
* Swansea are still awaiting their first ever Premier League goal.
* Arsenal have used more players than any other side in the league this season (23).
* The Gunners have become the first PL team ever to receive a sending off in each of their first three PL games.
Team News
Arsenal
Wilshere (ankle), Diaby (ankle), Vermaelen (ankle), Squillaci (calf) and Ryo are injured whilst Song, Gervinho and Jenkinson are all suspended. Sagna (ill), Walcott and Gibbs are in the squad. Rosicky (knee) will have a late fitness test whilst Frimpong returns from suspension. Santos is included in the squad but is not fit enough to start, whilst Park is in Paris trying to sort out Visa problem in time for tomorrow.
Swansea
Swansea's deadline-day signings Situ and Halliche have not received clearance in time to play. But Bessone could get a debut. Monk (foot), Tate (leg) and Bodde (knee) are unavailable.
Possible Arsenal substitutes: Fabianski Djourou Santos Rosicky Chamberlain Benayoun Chamakh
Managers
Arsene Wenger
"I believe we were very weakened on the day (of the Manchester United game), we played a very demanding game in Udinese and we conceded four goals in the last twenty minutes and were down to ten men. Therefore the international break came at a good time, we bought some players, we have some injuries back and the real start when we have the whole squad back is now."
Brendan Rodgers
"Arsenal are a magnificent club and their manager will motivate them. They also have new players as well who will want to make a good start. Having worked with big players before, I know that when they lose they are more motivated to come back and win the next game. He's been a wonderful manager in this country. His record speaks for itself and the philosophy he has brought to the British game is something to be admired. They have brought in some wonderful players; Arteta is a wonderful talent, a great footballer and someone who I'm sure will do well for Arsenal. The task is still very difficult for us, but we're looking forward to it."
Prediction
It's time for Arsenal to get back on track. We have some key injuries and suspensions but the new players will improve the morale amongst the squad and I am expecting three points.

Re: Arsenal v Swansea Preview
Great job Sam
I won't be surprised if Benayoun starts instead of Arshavin on the left. Wont mind either though.
Our team actually looks great for the first time in months. At least on paper.
Eventhough i would take a 1-0 win, i really hope we can score more then 5

Yeh Benayoun could start RG but maybe starting so many new players all at the same time isn't good.

Prediction, Arsenal may be down, but they are far from out. Their two defeats came against Liverpool and Manchester United, though the humiliating loss at Old Trafford will live long in the memory.
The Gunners will now be looking to bounce back and claim their first victory of the season, and the visitors could be in for some trouble if the club's new signings click instantly

Really a Giant.. But worried by reports that he had a terrible international game..
Park and Van Persie scoring hatricks make me happy...
And Ryo injured without playing a match ?

Brazilian defender Andre Santos lacks match fitness while Ju Young Park has yet to train with his new team-mates and may miss the game at Emirates Stadium.

Really looking forward to the game 2moro. Heard Chamberlain is on stand-by to replace Park if Park doesn't get permit in time.
Re: Arsenal v Swansea Preview
I'm thinking Arsenal will win this one relatively comfortably. Swansea are known for playing a more open and expansive style, which should play into Arsenal's hands.

Re: Arsenal v Swansea Preview
Germany were fielding a 1st ever experimental formation that day. Forget the Mertesacker rumors. He was a wall with Bremen who are in great form this season (with him).
I say we need to win 4-0 or something similar. First for morale purposes, and next to shut doubters up.

Re: Arsenal v Swansea Preview
4-1 to us
We score 2 via Walcott and Van Persie, then Swansea open us up to decrease the deficit to 2-1 whilst we all reach for the toilet paper, before RVP says "f*ck this noise" and bangs in another 2
