The best players I have seen are as followed
Maradona, Messi, Baggio, Laudrup, Cantona, Scholes, Pirlo, Xavi, Zidane, Zola, Del Piero, R9, Dinho, Van Basten, Baresi, Maldini. I can't say who is better than who. In terms of ability, Messi is pushing further and further away each passing year, he is still only 24!

Platini
Madonna (reluctantly)
Zidane
Messi
C. Ronaldo
The latter 2 still need to do something at country level to really be on this list. There have been many great players, exciting to watch but to make this list you have to have dominated at both club and country level.
If I had to pick just one from this list it would have to be Pele.

in all seriousness - Leo Messi.
Graeme Souness made a very good point when he was comparing Messi with the all time greats. He said that he's never seen an attacking player make defenders look so stupid and silly so often.

I never really thought about Messi or Cristiano seriously as 'best ever' players, but you include both of them in stead of Ronaldo, or Beckenbauer, or Laudrup... whatever. I am young, I cannot compare all these players. But as much as I like Cristiano, how can he be ranked above the old Ronaldo?
