I'm not a fan of the hard tackling DMs anymore...more often then not they are a bigger liability than they're worth

Seems to be good as a CB though, especially last ditch defending

Reminds me of a poor mans Walter Samuel a couple years ago Very Happy

hes very solid,but he tries to many star tackles,he is bound to fail miserably like in the last argentina game.

- Passing Average: 67 pass/game (91% accuracy).
- LongBalls: 70/82
- Tackles: 4.1/game
- Interceptions: 3.5/game

its because he left arsenal Smile

its a known fact that when a player that arsenal wanted to keep leaves us they never go on to do well, and never reach the form they had at arsenal.

I feel great with Masch as our last line of defense he's made so many last ditch/ goal saving tackles it's not funny. Plus he brings a nasty attitude to the team which is lacking at times.

What one poster said was completely true though in that he is bad in the air so he needs to partner with a CB that's good in the air other then that his skills as a CB are great.

Also, LOL at people who think it's easy to play CB for Barca in there high line. Take one look at Chelsea trying to do it with all there "great" defenders and you can see how hard it is.

When he plays at CB he reminds of Ramos, both doesn't have great positional sense but their speed and workrate makes them reliable, especially against fast and skilled forwards.

I don't know how good he would be as a CB in any other team than Barca. But he is probably the ideal CB to compliment Pique in the Barca system, and he is a without a doubt a top 5 tackler in the world, a world class all round player

If he were a few inches taller and had a better aerial game... dare I say it, best defender in the world.

I don't agree with the lack of positional sense, his positioning in both positions is flawless.

I remember reading somewhere it was thought he would play in midfield and be good at pressing, which turned out to be not very true. I also remember Maradona saying his best team is Mascherano + 10 others Razz

But I think he meant hes so good at defensive and assurance hes that vital to any team. When he plays at CB I think he gives us that, the last line of defense ahead of the GK, hes got good man marking and pace, sacrifices himself and he is a pure defensive man always. Having said that I still think Puyol Pique are better CBs though... and we know hes a top DM so... I would say both good.

Unreal how Pep and Barca ruined his prime years by converting him into a CB.

The guy is a soldier. An absolute maniac. What a player he is when he plays in that midfield role. I am not fan of destroying DMs, but Mascherano is one of the very few elite ones left in that position and delivered in the biggest game of his career, despite not having played much in this position for almost 4 years.

The true captain of Argentina.
