Xabi-Sahin or Xabi-Khedira is too static, Sahin-Khedira is the future. We'll have a mobile playmaker in CM area then

Lass is neither smart enough nor has the passing skills to allow Alonso to move up. Khedira cannot go sideline to sideline... doesn't have the range or the quickness.

Alonso playing deeper has nothing to do with his age or speed... he's been the same ever since i've watched him. The reason he's playing so deep is that we have not been able to find a suitable player to take the responsibility from him. Lass was supposed to be it... didn't happen. Khedira was never going to be that player.

With M'Villa, the midfield scheme shifts to more sideline to sideline from the current vertical setup. Deschamps and Makelele did that for Zidane throughout a lot of his career. Same type of role.

I never said that we played like Del Bosque, but that's the player evolve and move up the pitch.

In attacking phases, Marcelo moves up close to Alonso, and there is almost always a line of 3 at the back, 3 in the middle. That's how we are able to press so many zones when we ttack. Just look at the last game, the last goal Benzema scored, look how high Arbeloa was, completely removed from his RB position, he was pressing and he won the ball back.

That's the big change in mourinho's tactics so far this year. it's a very attacking style.

3 man backline in la liga is suicide, the quality of wingers here is too much, we play a 4 man backline and when marcelo moves out to attack we play 3, but it's a 4 man when he isnt

that's why even bielsa isn't playing a 3 man backline, his favourite formation, in la liga

TBF, it was Osasuna. Do you think that is a tactic we will use in the bigger games? I would like us to play Valencia like that, but I can see Mou taking some caution.

You guys dont understand. It looks like a 4231 on the team sheet, but the formation evolves during the game.

Those arent set positions the players take from the start of the game. Bielsa does it, Mourinho does it, and Pep does it.

I see what you mean, on the team sheet they have set positions, but on the pitch it changes. But do you think Mou will keep these tactics going?

I would totally swap Granero, Lass and Altintop for Mvila. Coentrao can provide even more backup. Mvila-Sahin would be the future, with our huge attacking talent he can be our Makalele (ooh, I went there) in a way. Yes, for a while with Alonso Sahin Khedira and Mvila there will be intense rotation and everyone will have to make sacrifices, but in a few years Alonso will be out of the picture.

Also khedira is not that great in my books,his offensive contribution is close to zero despite being played higher than alonso.Cant keep ball on his feet,cant create,cant score,not a great destroyer

A good game reader,decent short passing ,great stamina and runner but i would definitely search for better one

That was the problem from the start. Borja wasn't the guy, Vidal was but not available anymore. Who else?

I analyzed the problem in my ' Get Nuri Sahin thread' in goal.com The problem was, finding such complete players isn't easy. Coentrao could be the guy, he tackles very well, superb ball control and passing but he'd need to learn the CM role anew

in that role you describe, maybe mourinho is thinking about Coentrao, but he still sicks as a mid.

The argument that M'vila would free up Alonso and specially Sahin is a great one.

Xabi, biggest weakness is the fact that he does not have a great touch, but admitedly, he is a great passer, and frankly, i dont know if we need him behind the strikers. I thought of Javi Martinez specially because of that myself, and it's an argument that hold.

But Xabi has also been great with Spain with Busquets next to him, in that role that frees him up from all the defensive duties.

We can either have a ball carrier, or a passer with great vision, or both, but that's rare.

Give Coentrao 6 months and he will shine

He got all the attributes for a CM actually, and when he plays CM too his ball winning is good, even now. his problem is his positioning though

Completely agree with teh M'Villa part. I don't Xabi would do much if 'freed up' in advanced area. Sahin is another story, he'd flourish with him as DM
