Silly season

I can't get over the stories or should I say fantasies that are appearing in the papers and the reaction to them in this forum. Keep in mind that their motivation is to sell papers. Stop being so naive.

This is all happening because there are very few BIG changes this year.

Only thing happening at madrid is
1. Coentrao deal (I still believe this is happening)
2. Aquero signing and Benz sold (this is starting to look a little iffy).
3. 3rd striker to be signed - still likely to be Adebayor. Team is trying to get significant lowering of transfer price and player salary. It could possibly be Morata if Ade doesn't come.
4. possibly a DM if Lass does go.

NOTHING else is happening. If there is a Newmar signing, it is a future deal to get him at lower price, but he will stay with Santos for at least a year.

And with Barcelona, we are hearing they want Thiago Silva, Cesc, and Rossi or Sanchez. BUT they have only 45M to spend (possibly plus Ibra money when Milan pay for him). i.e no way they can do this. To sign Cesc besides all the crap they have to deal with with Arsenal, they would have to let go Thiago. To sign Rossi or Sanchez, they would probably have to let go of Villa or Pedro. None of this makes sense. Silva gives them the extra CB that they need to replace Puyol but he will cost their entire budget. My conclusion is probably none of this happens (note - Cesc can come next year without the transfer price and it's still in time before Xavi is finished). They likely will just bring in more from the academy to boost reserves.

If an Aquero deal is happening, it won't be until after copa america. I am really having doubts since it seems the Madrid tactics of getting Aquero to force deal and thus lowering transfer costs is not working. If it does happen, it will be benz sold. (no need to follow rumours until well into July).

I believe Kaka is staying. I don't favor this since it affects Ozil's playing time, but if he does regain some of his form, it helps club overall and it helps his eventual sale price.

Altintop is hard working, follows tactical instructions extremely well and he can play a variety of positions. He has been hired as a reserve. He's will be more useful than Gago, Garay, Leon, Canales. i.e he is the 22nd or 23rd player.

Callejon is back-up to both Ronaldo and Di Maria.

Actually, the interesting thing about Neymar is that they are talking about him as joining in for next season, not this summer.

It has virtually nothing to do with Aguero, but it's as if they want to lock it down now and run away with it.

It's even more relevant if he wins la copa libertadores. he will gladly stay. If not, im pretty sure he will go on a year loan in another team first, or stay in brazil but that's pointless imo.

what annoys me is the Rosell vs Perez competition behind the scenes, silly indeed

for those who say we need a cb, no we dont. we need an rb, and thats why mou wants coentrao, but lallala everyone knows that deal.

we will need to buy a cb eventualy but not a real nessesity.

if it were up to me.

id only purchase coentrao, and essien.

@ this moment coentrao and aguero are the only "realistic" possibilities but even @ that im bored with them..

Dude, i learned my lesson last time EC reported Coentrao and he said 'screw it this is fake'.

No one can tell if it's true or not right now, but EC is reporting, it's worrisome enough for me.

why would you need a rb if ramos is the future with arbeloa in the team as well.

im guessin mourinho wants to get as close to having a team like inter, but only better...

thus the wanting of an rb like maicon and a powerful dm.

arbeloa can defend but cant attack, and ramos cant do either all too well.

i thought it was clear the majority saw ramos as our future cb with pepe?

someone like coentrao who can defend well and attack superbly is the type of play mou needs.

with guys like ramos,pepe,carvalho, cb can wait another year.

ALBILOL wont cut it.

still even though you stated only a few changes.. imo the ones you stated are HUGE changes.

coentrao means a re-organiztion of the defense
aguero in benz out means another young forward to acclimate to our offense
figuring out a 3rd striker is also not a minor tinkering
and if lass leaves who will we sign? there are no decent DMs on the market imo.

Is Coentrao your ideal RB, or would you prefer someone who is more accustomed to the role?

some people look at guys like van der wiel, bosingwa.. i mean thats not even close.

if coentrao was a natural rb he would have been here since last season, now that mourinho sees no option, coentrao is coming.

i think its clear mourinho doesnt plan to have ramos or arbeloa start as rb.

the market for RBs is dry, you either stick with arbeloa or ramos, or you get creative or find a rare talent.

If I remember correctly, you were pushing hard for VDW some months back?

Anyway, yes Arbeloa is excellent defensively but his attacking qualities aren't so. Ramos has been discussed already.

i was discussing possible right backs, as was everyone, but if you really look at the selection of possibilities out there, and what mou wants...

as nick said u have to get creative.

mou wants a player like coentrao at right back, hence his praise for coentrao.

seems like mou really wants those attacking/ fullbacks, especially at rightback. thining about his whole game plan here, specially counter attacking aspect.

We do agree that Coentrao has been in Mourinho's good books for at least a year, so now that Mourinho is basically out of options, he is going for the gamble. I just hope he can acclimatise and adapt well to the role, but I've never questioned his talent.

Maicon obviously surpasses Coentrao as a RB, but Maicon's career is on the downward slope while Coentrao looks to be on the ascent. If we are to think long term, Coentrao makes much more sense.
