Cant see why not he isnt really a impact player, and started every game for us.

He just doesn't fit in with the players Liverpool bought, I have said all along they bought some nice individual players but they dont compliment each other or fit together to well.

And they dont play Hendo in the role that he is affective at.

I haven't been too impressed with Ashley Young too. Started off really well then became crap. He and Downing were huge players for Villa, just shows that sometimes it's hard to make the step up to a big club. You eventually get found out.

Which LFC fans said that? They play in completely different positions. And Meireles was always bad when played on the wings.

this was before downing made it to lfc, dont remember specifics but many seemed to think downing would be better and glad to see raul out.

Downing is probably just one of those players not meant to play at the very top level. He's a solid player, but doesn't have that little extra quality that'd make him a top player on a consistent basis.

It's not entirely his own fault, mind you. As a traditional winger, he's going to be at this best whipping in crosses but if he hasn't got the targets, his crosses aren't going to be effective. Plus, he's not getting any opportunities to show his prowess at set-pieces, since Charlie Adam seems to be taking them all. I'd imagine Downing would have a few more assists if he was free-kick or corner duty. Conversely, Adam would've have that many.

Ashley Young I've discussed before. Has the skill-set and the pace, but not the consistency to be a top player.

Downing is the worst player at Liverpool imo. The annoying thing is we bought a very good player, not a world class one but a very decent proven premier league player. We paid a bit over the odds for him at 20m (I think 16m would have been fair)) and he has come and been absolutely shit.

Hopefully he can turn it round and not be so shit all the time.
