What do you make of this stat?

This is out of the top 5 European leagues, Serie A, LigaBBVA, BPL, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga.

For interceptions per game 19 of the top 20 in Europe play in La Liga, with Lucio at 19th the first from any other league.

In fact LigaBBVA represents 50 of the top 60 players for this statistic. Which to me is an outstanding number.
Of the 10 represented in the top 60 from other leagues 6 are from the Bundesliga, 3 are from Serie A and one from Ligue 1.

I find this very very peculiar and I guess does this show the glaring deference in play-style and tactics in the leagues?

What do you make of it?

Could it be that in the other leagues they take the ball away from players then intercept the passes?

Did you have a nice valentines day?

Liga teams play with higher lines, rely more on short passes that are easier to intercept rather than to shoot into space, players are centrally located and form tighter groups, pressing is employed more?

Also, defenders are more the cerebral type rather than PL tanks.

It's not about which league is better.

It's about understanding the league's style of play that would cause such a large number of interceptions.

Yeah well, it's the short passing and the fact that you really can't tackle all that much in La Liga without being sent off, imho.

Just shows you the differences in playing style.

Here is a link to a visual representation of several key stats, comparing the big leagues in European Football. It includes Shots per Game, Shots on Target, Passing Accuracy, Tackles, Interceptions and Goals. Granted, it is put together by the Telegraph (an English Newspaper), but the stats seem to be accurate and this source has a reputation for quality.

Off Topic: Neg repping isn't really a big deal but it does give an impression you just wrote a bunch of crap if you see a big red bar next to your post.

On Topic: It just shows the various styles at which teams play in their respective leagues. I maybe a bit bold to say that La Liga defenders have a keen eye of when to intercept a pass more considering that most of the clubs tend to play a more passing oriented game and also, hard tackling is a cardinal sin in Spain.
