Wenger: Ban divers for three games
Wenger said: "If an obvious dive is punished by a three-match ban, the players would not do it anymore. I would support it. It has to be obvious diving.
"Ashley Young for example against QPR I would not suspend him because I don't know if he has lost his balance. He has made more of it for sure to get the penalty. This is not an obvious case for me.
"Everybody wants to win football games and when you have played football, you always try to be on the fringe if you want to win. For example, you touch the ball and it goes out you shout: 'throw in for us.' Things like that.
"But with a dive in the box, sometimes I think you can only get it out after the game.
"I think that the foreign players have brought good and bad things. But I must say the English players learn quickly."
Wenger believes video evidence should be introduced into the games with instant replays to stop cheating and also to decide bad tackles and offside decisions.
The Arsenal manager believes instant replays and a post-match ethics committee would help clean up the game.
Wenger said: "It's impossible to judge today penalties. Penalties and offsides are the main problems for the referees. All the rest you have to give to them. Especially on penalties. For example the dives.
"Or you say everybody who dives now and is caught after the game is suspended for three games.
"But you have a double obstacle, first of all when the situation has been assessed by the referee, you cannot come back on the judgement of the referee, so it's better you give him video help.
"We have that famous thing that the judgement of the referee has to be final. But I don't agree with that.
"We should have a superior committee of ethics who could still punish a player like that. Because you go home and you think he now gets away without being suspended and the whole situation doesn't make sense."

Forget 3, try 5. They also need to do something about players choosing to go down if they feel contact. IMO unless the contact forces a player down it shouldn't be a foul, you shouldn't be allowed to choose if you get the free kick.

This won't stop diving. It would only force divers to become even better at diving.

Re: Wenger: Ban divers for three games
I dont think players would dive as much if they know they could miss 3 games and coaches wont encourage it.

Even if the dive looks legit when you see it live with replays you will be able to see it was a dive and then ban them for as many games as you see fit.

Re: Wenger: Ban divers for three games
Would only be applicable when there is definitively zero contact and a player goes down.
Otherwise it's impossible to judge if a player received enough contact to make him loose his balance.
Take this "dive" for example (check the angle from 30 s and onwards):
How can you judge if the contact made Ronaldo loose his balance or not? It's impossible even with video "evidence".

Re: Wenger: Ban divers for three games
The problem with diving is that, how to you factually decide what is a dive and what isnt? it's easy to say that diving should be punished, some obvious dives like Rivaldo falling on his own will be easily caught, but what about others more ingenious jumps? the line is not going to be easy to define.

Say what you want but Ashley Young is doing whatever it takes to win the league for United. You have to admire that competitive spirit.

Re: Wenger: Ban divers for three games
Not going to work.
Only a matter of time before someone gets banned for 3 games when they didnt dive, rather they fell but it wasnt really a foul.
I would rather diving go unpunished in terms of bans/cards than someone get punished when they didnt actually dive.

Re: Wenger: Ban divers for three games
I say give ban to the most obvious dives like Gilardino dive or cuencea's one in copa etc, which will definitely have an effect on such a blatant diving.

Look at Ashely young 2 games he dives and gets 2 penalties and one red card.
Both teams are fighting for their EPL survival and Ashely breaks their :vagi: hearts.

Maybe, but the way it is now people are getting red cards for not fouling people. 1 person may get banned when they didn't dive but that's better than the current system where Young can get Derry sent off.

I understand and its wrong, I dont like it myself.
But what about a less obvious dive, maybe one which its hard to tell?
The team who lost out to that dive, their coach is going to say, hold on a minutes, this guy dived and is getting away with it.
The other coach would say, it wasnt a dive.
And back and forth and nobody gets anywhere.
Sure, blatant dives I understand but there arent many of them. I mean even Young's one vs Villa, there was some contact and you can bet your ass Fergie is going to point that out if someone tries to ban Young for that dive.

I dont like either and I wouldnt want to trade one for another. I dont know the solution, but this one seems a little too flawed for me.

All this is just masking the real problem. Referees just need to do their job.

Seriously tho, Wenger is right but would the FA have the balls to ban the big team players like Young?
I have doubts but if this were to happen, Young would never play 2 games in a row again :lol!:
Zeal the refs cant do everything lol, they need help goal line technology is one thing that needs to come in and the big federations need to be banning people for acts that are deserving of bans.
None of this the ref dealt with so he cant be punished BS and do i need to mention the Spanish federation lol?
