He said: ‘For the sake of the game and for football in general, I hope Barcelona win in the Nou Camp.

‘I love teams who attack. Chelsea did nothing but defend with nine players and kept lots of players in the middle of the park. But this tie could have been over by now.

‘I expected Chelsea to lose by a big figure. And it could still have been 5-1 to Barca at the end.

‘Chelsea had just one shot at goal – and they scored.’

Van der Sar is not the only former star to criticise Roberto Di Matteo’s side, Ronald Koeman, who won the tournament with Barca in 1992, has also had a go at the Londoners.

Madrid didnt park the bus..They waited and played on the counter.Mou copied Di Matteo's tactics with a few changes.

Real Madrid had 6 shots on target, 14 in total.

The fact that we let you have your precious possession doesn't mean squat if we create more danger than you. We sent players forward at every opportunity. But didn't tire ourselves when you did your usual tiresome possession routine, looking for space for Messi that didn't exist due to excellent defending.

Madrid and Chelsea played in completely different ways. Chelsea simply parked the bus, and scored a goal on their one good opportunity. Madrid defended in their own half when Barca had possession (you just cant pressure Barca the whole 90 minutes) but when they had the ball they managed to attack and create danger, while Chelsea hardly ever left their own half.

Madrid's defence was also better, they managed to nulify Barca, they had very few good chances. While against Chelsea, Barca had alot of chances but somehow didnt finish them.

Just because Barca dominated possession in both games doesnt mean what happened was the same.

lol you cant compare madrid and chelsea game. madrid are a completely different level above those pathetic extremely lucky bus parkers. madrid dont play total defence against barca. no one can beat barca at possession. madrid do the best they can and hold them off and when they have the ball they use it much better than chelsea do. theyre a very good counter attacking team against barca. its the only way they can beat them. barca and madrid had the same amount of chances. barca destroyed chelsea but poor finishing let them down that night which wouldnt happen most of the time.

yes i agree with van der sar. theres no rule you have to play attractive football, but its always nice when the obvious better team wins. so i dont understand why anyone would get mad over it. such as these ignorant idiots:

Well Van Der Sar is wrong, they didnt have 9 men behind the ball, they had 10 and sometimes all 11 lol

But to be honest, teams with lesser players are going to do this now..its just the way football is.

Its harder to keep the ball and attack, so why risk it and lets just defend and hope to score off a counter or set piece.

It makes the game poor, but some teams dont have the responsibilty to play well, they can just win and thats fine.

Since AVB left no team has been luckier than Chelsea, the luck will run out next week.

Barcelona will not lose 3 games a in row and I dont see the game ending a tie.

Mou did not copy anything. He used the same tactic he use with Inter against Barca in the first game when it was 11 vs. 11. But he won better, 3-1 worst defeat of Barca for a long time.

I dont get it..VDS has lost 2 CLs because of barcelona, and now he wants Barcelona to win the match against Chelsea and qualify themselves to final. This isint about who played better or not, but he should have some respect towards Chelsea.

PBW, i think Madrid had a huge advantage in that they did not have to win this match, but we had to. So Barcelona wanted to hold more possession in Madrid's half near their attacking third so that Messi and co could get more chances to score. And they did create chances.

Once Madrid got their goal, they were content conceding space in their half for a compact defense. But Barcelona had to get a win, so they pushed up more and held possession far up the field which left a lot of space behind and Madrid capitalized.

If this were a typical clasico, you might have seen a more balanced approach from Barcelona and they would not have left space behind.
