Re: Bayern vs Chelsea-The official Champions League Final Thread
I'm uber nervous, I really want Bayern to win, though I have nothing against Chelsea, besides loving to make fun of them being a plastic sugardaddy club.
I actually like a lot of Chelseas players, so I want them to do well. But not in this match.
I've thought about the tie a bit, and frankly I was worried as f*ck by the way Chelsea took their chances against Barca. Bayern are nowhere as clinical.
But let's look at it from the perspective of a comparison to the Chelsea v Barca ties:
Bayern are like Barca in the way that:
- Both teams like to hold on to possession
- Both teams, for the most part, have a rather slow build-up play
- Both teams have excellent technicians, and defend by denying opportunity, not breaking up play
Bayern are unlike Barca in the way that:
- Bayern are more balanced, they got a couple physical players more, able to muscle basically anyone off the ball
- Bayern got less chemistry and are less good at keeping possession than Barca
- Bayern have a true, natural striker as a forward, someone who can run through two or three defenders, knocking them all over, and still reach a high cross
- Bayern are wing-heavy, while Barca play more through the middle, if they go through the wings it's because they've stretched themselves out, it's not their natural path, this means that Chelseas bus-parking exercise was more effective against Barca than it will be against Bayern, who will force Chelseas defence to spread out
- Bayern are willing to let go of possession to force a shot on goal, and play risky passes to force opportunities, this will mean a far higher chance to score against how Chelsea defended, but it also means far more opportunities to counter-attack
- Bayern have tall players, making them better at defending, and scoring from, set pieces
- Bayern are nowhere as intimidating as Barca was, and Chelsea probably won't park the bus against them, but rather try to score first, so they can sit back after. This will open space for both teams, something, which probably serves Bayern more than it will Chelsea
So that being said, I'm a bit more optimistic than before making that analysis, but TBH, Bayerns main weaknesses are still vulnerability to counters, and their lack of efficiency in front of goal, both of which the main factors that already killed Barca off.
I do think, however, that Bayern are a more versatile and complete squad than Barca, on the merit of being less specialized, and thus being worse specialists, but better alrounders. Meaning, Bayern won't completely dominate possession, but on the other hand they really won't need to.
I will look forward to this match on a slightly optimistic note.

Also, Bayern don't press as good as Barca does, btw, but against Chelsea that shouldn't mean too much. They will still dominate possession, and the main threat will still be counter-attacks.

Re: Bayern vs Chelsea-The official Champions League Final Thread
My analysis could perfectly explain a Chelsea win, I will only be deceived if Chelsea actually boss the midfield, and score goals by actually creating them through patience, except through pacey counters. Then I'll eat my words.
But I say either Bayern wins, or Chelsea murders them on the counter in a less extreme version of the Barca match.

Re: Bayern vs Chelsea-The official Champions League Final Thread
As a club, I like Bayern more than Chelsea. But if Bayern win the CL, they could lay a very secure claim on being the best club in the world (a meaningless title, I know!), a title which I very much fancy for Madrid. Also, the heartbreak of the penalties isnt going to just go away.
So Go Chelsea! Blue is the colour, what!

I've already jinx'd the Gomez thing kept on moaning at him in the semi (when I wanted Bayern to win) and he kept on missing his chances, he will punish me in the final .

"In truth I simply have lots of opinion, and write it down here. Sometimes I’m wrong. And sometimes I’m partly wrong, but modify my opinion in response to what others write here. I really have learnt a lot from others during my 11months here on Goallegacy.
I think that that Liverpool v Chelsea match, is a great study in what a tall, powerful striker like Gomez, who is also good in the air, can do to a team like Chelsea. The full match is available online, and if anyone is interested and has 90 min to spare sometime, it/Andy Carroll is worth watching.
Liverpool vs Chelsea 08 May 2012 Full Match
Carrol was causing all sort of problem for Chelsea in both matches, applying this to Bayern vs Chelsea game then you could say if Ribery and Robben work as hard as they usually do and Gomez doesn't disappoint, then Bayern could win.
but this is only my opinion, Chelsea have a very experience team, but inexperience manager, all fingers point at Bayern wining the match, especially since Chelsea most important players such as Ramirez, Ivanovic, Raul Meireles, Terry, in addition to this it is unclear whether Luiz and Cahill will be available to start due to injury, however even if they manage to start match fitness will be another problem for them.
Replacement players.
Looking at the players that will replace the suspended players, one could say Bayern has better replacement and better option.
David Alaba: Bayern have Rafinha who until last month was playing against the likes of Manchester City and Napoli, also the manager have at his disposal to choose either to use him on Contento who is another talent average height balance fullback.
Badstuber: this will be the most problematic position for Bayern, Badstuber has been so instrumental for us and I was really disappointed by his rash tackle that earned him the 2nd yellow card(I was also not so very pleased with his immature reaction after the card, which strengthen my point that he's not fit to be our future captain, with such moral killing attitude)
However, the reason why this is such a problem for Bayern is because of the absent of Van Buyten as a result of injury, if Van Buyten was fit, Badstuber suspension could have even been a blessing in disguised. Reasons being that Van Buyten-Boateng combo has worked so well and kept attacking team like Man-city intact even when they were scoring for breakfast. Also Van Buyten is about the only CB out there who can out muscle Drogba and Boateng strength, tackling ability and pace should cover for the rest.
However if Van Buyten doesn't start, then Tymo might find it hard to contain Drogba, especially with his play-acting, Drogba is a big technical and strong striker, however he has masterminded the art of playing acting, which makes him very dangerous and unpredictable.. He's dangerous in the sense that his play-acting ability can earn Tymo 2 yellow cards or straight Red card, it's not a secret that the only way Tymo can contain Drogba is through slide tackling, but if he decides to stay on his feet, Drogba will make a mess of him, also Drogba is unpredictable, in the sense that one minute he falls down and the next minute he out muscle a CB, if Tymo is to mark Drogba it will difficult for him to match him.
Further more, Schweini-Kroos combo in midfield is well known to be a total failure, although it looks good on paper, however whenever Bayern uses it, it usually leaves the back-line expose.
Best bet for Bayern is that Van Buyten returns from injury and play 1 or 2 matches with the reserves team, as Bayern needs him now more than ever, I even see him scoring a goal in this match if he starts.
Lastly the match will be played at our stadium, I know Uefa gave Bayern and Chelsea same amount of tickets, however the other available ticket that will be sold by Uefa is most likely to be bought by Bayern fans, it's no secret that 1million German requested tickets.
Regardless on the tickets allocated by Uefa, Bayern will still have home advantage.
However, Chelsea has surprise many spectator throughout this season cpl campaign, against the likes of Napoli, they came from the dead to win the match and against Barca the defined all odds.
So one could say Bayern are most likely to win it, but Chelsea also have a strong chance of winning it.
