Koscielny or Vermaelen?

Looks like one of them may be out in the summer when Vertonghen arrives as I don't think either would be content with a backup role. Which player is more likely to stay at Arsenal?

Kos seems like the much better defender to me but Verm is a fan favourite at Arsenal.

Vermalene and Koscienley in theory must be complementing each other as Verm like to get out of the line and go for the ball and kos covering well. In practice it is not working well,their defense is error prone.

Vermaelen can backup either Mertesacker or Gibbs, but to me that's the best lineup. Vermaelen and Kos are a little too similar for my tastes.

Vertonghen ain't coming when you have 3 quality CBs and Djourou as backup.

I don't think Vertonghen is going there.

I like Vermaelen better. I'll be surprised if Arsenal buy another CB, Mertesacker arrived just yesterday.

would love it if it happened but i can't see it happening because we have Vermaelen,Koscielny,Mertesacker and Wenger loves Djoopoo.

Koscielny is a miles better defender, but as you said Verm is a fan fave.....

I doubt Arsenal would sell either, Mertesacker would be more likely to be sold but even that is highly unlikely.

Why i keep saying Vertonghen makes no sense at all for them.

No guarantees that Vertonghen is going to Arsenal, and either way neither of Koscielny or Vermaelen are leaving

Also, how do you know for sure one of them would have to drop to the bench if Vertonghen signs? He might not adapt to the league or our system seamlessly. At Arsenal, CBs are basically the first and last line of defence as well...

Anyway for the purpose of the argument: IMO Koscielny is more technically skilled defensively and this season has even been more consistent, but Vermaelen is more of a leader and is the best goal-scoring defender in the league so he offers more going forward.

Vermealen is super average, if it isnt for Koss' last ditch challenges Arsenal would concede shit-loads of goals

Vertonghen is not needed at all. Our next CB partnership should be Koscielny - Mertesacker IMO.

Vertonghen is miles better than Verm that's why. Even at Ajax Vertonghen was considered better.

Never fully realised just how good he was till the ESPN app on Xbox was created. Reminds me alot of Hummels.

Not saying that one is better than the latter, but I doubt Vertonghen would like to be a backup - when he can go to other clubs where he could start.

Is he really that good Gil, i havent seen much but what i have seen looks like to me that he's exceptional at passing, excellent positional sense, clean in the tackle but a bit weak in the air and a bit slow.

No wonder Pardew wants him then lol( unless your just hyping for hypings sake), we have no chance of even talking to his agent tho matter about buying him.

He's great on the ball though, and is usually reliable.

Regardless even if we do want him, he's too hyped and too much in demand by big clubs to even consider us.....

At Arsenal he isn't guaranteed a starting spot.

Personally i think he's joining City so i dont think it matters......

And I'm glad that Koscielny finally gets some recognition, he's been our best defender by far all season - really a shame that he has to deal with an Arsenal that can't defend as a team.
