messi choked with an important penalty, ronaldive choked with an important penalty, robben choked with an important penalty, gomez choked with EVERYTHING, drogba conceded two penalties in the last two games of the tournament (isn't that some kind of a record?), terry went insane when it mattered

if best player of the champions league was a trophy, setting fire to it would be more appropriate than giving it to a particular player this year

So in the end it would be fitting to give that honor to a non-outfield player(GK) :vagi:

Imo, Messi was the best by far (individual performance through out the season)... But Cech was the main reason why Chelsea won the UCL, crucial saves against Barcelona and (3 penalties saved) against Bayern... if its not Messi, it has to be Cech.

I seriously cant wait until Evra has 1 decent performance like Cole so he can be hyped to all hell like Cole and ignoring 2 seasons of extremely meh performances.

Drogba scored important goals in the Semi and Final.. but he did 2 big mistakes in the same matches (Luck was on his side that both Messi and Robben missed the penalties).. Overall season, he wasn't the best chelsea player.. Mata, Cech Cole all played a more important role..

Drogba's foul on Ribery was a brilliant tactical manoeuvre won Chelsea the Champions League.

Injured Ribery, destroyed Robben's confidence, left the Bayern team terrified of facing Cech and led to Olic's appearance, who would get Chelsea back into the shootout.

All hail Drogba's magic touch, so good even fouls turn to gold.

As for the poll, I voted for Petr Cech. This isn't the league where I'm searching for year round consistent output in my player of the tournament for those criticising the selection of Drogba however. Knock-out tournaments reward the players who handle the pressure and force their teem through sheer force of will.

Also Kroos deserves some votes, he would have been my choice had Bayern won.

You serious mate? Mikel was absolutely outstanding..... best Chelsea player from a defensive point of view by an absolute mile.

But both penelties were very soft... Not big mistakes at all. I even think Fabregas dived on that one.

If Bayern's pen was a pen then so was Torres pen.

Mikel was immense in the final to be honest. But then he did not really stand out because the whole team put in an amazing defensive performance.

Using Cole's one mistake in the CL Final to try and disqualify him when your own choice did just as much to throw the CL away for Chelsea as he did to win it, if were being honest here...

Drogba giving away two absolutely needless penalties that could've (and should've) been Chelsea's downfall in the competition = CL Player of the Season

I dont understand the logic used here.

Every single player, minus Cech has some kind of black mark on them.

Cole was trash up untill Barca, against Napoli he was getting raped left, right and center. Even last night he was to blame for the goal.

Drogba for many games didnt do anything, he scored 2 crucial goals but he gave away 2 pens.

Just because Chelsea won, doesnt mean they had the best individual player.

Even Cech, how many really great saves did he make? I cant think of many at all.

Messi couldnt take Barca past Chelsea for various reasons and performed bad in the final game.

People were saying Gomex before the final, thats gone silent for good reason.

I could go on.


I felt Ramieres did well nearly all the game, even the ones they lost, but not exactly the best player of the tournament type performances.

Kroos I would probably say the same.

Ribery did well, very well, but maybe not enough either.

All in all, there really isnt a standout players. Messi was putting on the best collection of performances and gave the best output, thats clear..however, you have to knock him down for Chelsea.

However, what I really dont get is, how one can knock him down and then go ahead and name someone who clearly has his own oversights.

champions league player of the season should be chelsea player

dont care if messi or ronaldo scored 30 goals before getting eliminated, it wasnt enough to assure the qualification of your team in order to maintain the title

or at least a bayern one since the game ended at penalty shootout

Why should it be a Chelsea player? Makes no sense.

They won, because they had the best team, not best player.

Actually, they didnt have the best team either really but thats not the point.

Chelsea relied on the team, not individuals.

Whaaaaat? The same Drogba that bossed vs. Valencia, Napoli, Barca and now Bayern?

These 4 teams were the ones they needed the win to qualify aswell.

Especially Napoli. He was immense against them.
