Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
Ref was a joke taking croissants up his arse, can report back to his commander *bleep* later with a good performance.

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
Play Giroud up top next time.
Lose Malouda.
--Cabaye-Diarra
Nasri-Benzema-Ribery
-----Giroud-----------
Benzema is a playmaker you can't expect him to sit in the box and wait on service.

Blanc should have introduced Giroud at half time ffs
It was annoying as hell to see him sit so deep, THAT is not how you unlock a PTB team...
Hopefully this doesn't screw our chances of qualifying...
really angry at the way benz played. just stay up there dude, he would of raped the england backline if he had did that.

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
I thought Welbeck did very well. Held the ball up and kept possession. Didn't have an opportunity to test Lloris though.
Ref was overly biased against England though.

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
Benzema is no playmaker and you shouldn't play him as one either.
Either he starts running behind defences or he gets benched by Giroud imo. Playing as a false 9 in international football has never worked yet and it's risky to attempt to do so, so he has to change his playstyle or play Giroud.

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
Fine bench him for Giroud because he is always going to come deep and get his touches. He will never be as effective as Giroud making runs behind defenses because he likes to be on the ball and he likes to playmake conjunctively with his teammates, if that's not what you want, bench him.
But lets just leave the most pointless player of all time in Malouda on the pitch just for fun.

Maybe it's just France's playing style, where everybody has to be outside the box trying to link with each other.

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
Welbeck was excellent, given he was working with almost no service whatsoever. He worked really hard and did the best he could given the circumstance. Cannot see how Carroll would have done any better.
Young disappointed me, just by being generally anonymous. Hopefully he gets involved more in the next two games. I'd like to see more from Milner, and I'm not sure Chamberlain should be starting games at this moment in time.
Creating chances still needs work but at least we played with the ball on the deck today. There wasn't any aimless hoofing, and I hope it stays that well.
Defensively we look good, but given the amount of hard work the players have to go through we need the attack to improve so the pressure is taken off the defence more.
All in all, I'm pleased with the result, since France are a much better side than us. Still some improvment needed but I'm feeling better about our chances of getting out the group.

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
It is not the first time France have been playing with Benzema deep. We saw in the previous friendlies the link up of Benz/Nasri/Ribery outside the box and it has worked very well.
England defended very well even with Numbers. I don't think France would have had much more of a chance with Benz making runs.

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
Benz was utter crap. He had no presense in the box when Ribery or others beat their men. France played more defensive version of Spain's 4-6-0 today.
I was very disappointed with Blanc. Giroud would've made a world of a difference. Ribery and Debuchy got wasted.
Cabaye was the standout player for me. Most boring game of the tournament...

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
No one in the box for France.
England is pretty boring. PTB and hope for the best for majority of the game.

France did not deserve shit..OLpower wrote:I felt we were vastly superior but England defended very well.
It is a disappointing result, because we deserved the victory and had a lot more opportunity. We only conceded on England only opportunity, on a long range set piece.
Blanc should have launched Giroud, he could have unlocked the situation. Benzema was not useful in this match.
Possesion without "purpose " is dead
you were only threatening from Shots,, england shot you down offensively that ypou had to shoot to feel anything

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
Welbeck didn't do bad, but his abilities were wasted in this kind of a game.
Carroll's abilities would have been more useful.
And the referee was horrible indeed.

Re: Group D: France vs England discussion
Draw was a fair result. France, for all the hype they recieved going into the tournument, they weren't impressive. I feel England matched them all the way.
edit: Welbeck was brilliant. Hart, Welbeck, Gerrard, Ox and Lescott were very good. Milner was complete crap. For the French, I thought Cabaye and Diarra were brilliant.

This. I had very VERY high expectations from France. I even made Benzema my Captain in my fantasy team as I was sure he would score a few goals against a depleted England with this support.
Very VERY dissapointed with France. I thought they were sure Shot semi-finalists but now I dont know, they will probably loose to Italy,Croatia or Spain even if they qualify.
Russia impressed me way more than France.
