Revierderby for the pure entertainment factor of it. Not only is it a heated rivalry between Dortmund and Schalke, but both sets of teams have a great sense of humour and prank each other repeatedly, and hilariously.

Also, as of late they are also great matches from a sporting perspective, but of course, this is also true for the Milan derby and the Clasico, I just can't see or hear anything about the Clasico anymore, it's so overexposed, it annoys me.
And the Milan clubs, well, suffer from Italian Stadium Atmosphere Syndrome, imho.

Clasico is not a derby at all.

The only true and good derby in France is Lyon vs Saint-Etienne.

There's your answer...
Only reason that many people watch it is to see Messi and Ronaldo go against each other tbh. How many non La Liga fans watched el clasico pre Messi-Ronaldo?

Talking about some fierce derbies, Tyne-Wear is one of those. Also, West Ham-Milwall is absolutely heated through the roof and often ends up in fights either between players or between fans or both lol. Definitely a place I do not want to be in but I love to watch.

Yes its historic. But the number of viewers it gets these days is historic BECAUSE of Messi and Ronaldo.

Short history, pre-Ronaldo, since I assume you mean Messi-Ronaldo rivalry. There's pre-Messi info as well.

Number of viewers these days is historic because of rising internet penetration rates across the third world and increased Television accessibility.

But alas, it's not a derby, so this talk is futile.

Tbh if teams like Milan and Inter for example were to be in the peak of their powers we could probably see similar viewership rates or atleast close to it.
Or maybe the Manchester Derby would be much more viable example seeing how the PL is just so popular all across the world.

So lets not overrate the significance of the Clasico..You are getting such viewership numbers since not only for the reasons mentioned above but also mainly they are by far the two best teams in football with two of the best footballers in the world plying their trade at their respective clubs.

again the viewership has always been high for clasicos, they are just lucky to be part of it don't want to turn into a bot ffs Laughing

It was the best and most fierce derby long before Missi and Ronaldo became famous and it has just continued, next decade when we Ronaldo and Missi have retired it will be even more famous not because of the quality have increased(altho it will) but as josh said its becoming easier to watch it these days and Tv contract are becoming cheaper etc and clasico is more famous and actionated(is that even a word??) these days than the zzzzz Manchester derby hence more people tune in to watch it

you can find anything in it, quality/technique/drama/comedy you name it, its appealing to all age ranges, all sexualities, both genders and to people with low IQs eco smile

I don't disagree.

But he's saying people are watching the matches because of Messi and Ronaldo. I suppose 10 years ago people were watching because of Zidane and Rivaldo, 50 years ago they were watching because of Di Stefano and Kuba.

Messi and Ronaldo could cease to exist tomorrow and someone would step in to fill the void, the enduring history both clubs present is clear enough evidence.

I don't think it's the most entertaining (though as a fan it's the most gripping and anticipated match), and I think that's what's being asked. So fair enough. But don't reduce 50 years to the likes of Ronaldo.

Well, I'd only watch the Spanish Clasico if there is no BL match at the same time (or another match in which I'd have a vested interest) ^^

Argentina vs Brazil, Boca vs River, El Clasico and the Milan derby are my favorite ones to watch, and provide the most entertainment imo.

Why do we have to pick which is best when we can watch them all? Razz

Are people really using popularity to decide which is the best derby?

Call of Duty breaks record sales every year but is that the best game?

Silliest argument i have ever seen lol.

Anyone i think you will find the derby that involves the team you support will always be your favourite.

I find the Tyne Wear Derby the best even though i shit my pants every year over the sheer possibility of losing Laughing

It's completely fallacious, appealing to popularity at it's simplest form.
Millions of people tune in each week to watch MTV's Jersey Shore, that doesn't make it a quality television program.

My favourite derby (since Juventus vs. Inter isn't technically a derby) is Roma vs. Lazio. As a neutral this is always a fun game because there are usually goals and there is always drama. This is the type of a game that I would actually be afraid to watch live in the stadium.

Well i guess i had a wrong impression for clasico as there is much more then football, and to me that was a kind of derby -> long rivalry that transcends sport. Thats why i consider some NT's as derbys as well.
