Name five early season flops Empty Name five early season flops

Post by Art Morte Wed Oct 10, 2012 7:07 am

A random club footy thread for the international break.
Name five early season flops from one or several leagues and why you've been disappointed with them.

Mine are:

Stephane Sessegnon - Had a great season 11-12, but now hasn't got a single goal or assist for Sunderland in six games.

Ramires - Perhaps a little unfair, this, but he was among Chelsea's most important players last season, has been very indifferent what I've seen of him in this campaign.

Fabio Borini - I'm sure more was expected of him, can only hope he hits form later on. No goals or assists in the league yet.

Charles N'Zogbia - He was great for Wigan from 09 to 11. Great dribbles, key figure in attack, scoring and assisting... Start of second season at Villa after his £9.5m move and has been very poor, lost his starting place, too.

Mario Balotelli - Obviously his minutes have been limited, but still, no goals in 255 minutes of Premier League football this season.

Ramires has been great in the pivot. Not so good in our attacking style on the wing.

He hasn't lived up to last season but still a starter and not a flop.

Olivier Giroud. Leads Montpellier to Ligue 1 title but has a difficult start at Arsenal. Had 1 goal in 9 games up until this past weekend where he broke the drought in the league. I like him a lot, hopefully he finds form.

Good call on him.

I don't see how Balotelli can be called a flop when he has only 3 games started and 1 off the bench. He still has a goal to his name and given how Mancini doesn't use him in whats not exactly a goalscoring position, then its harsh.

Borini either as he was brought it for future development and at the age of 21 he is just that. We still look better with him on the field due to his intelligence and movement and it doesn't help that he has been played wide majority of the season.

Kagawa was hyped up beyond belief, but has delivered nothing but porridge thus far. All he's done when I've watched him is fall over a lot and be subbed off for Anderson

Gylfi Sigurðsson was somebody at Swansea. Now, he's some guy lost in the shuffle at Tottenham

No shout for Higuain? He's on ice compared to last season, same for Huntelaar.

Good call on Silva, he indeed hasn't been as influential as expected.

Thinking over, I'd replace Ramires with Papiss Cisse in my list.

some great shouts, can't believe I forgot Gerrard, he's well and truly done I think.

As for Levezzi who was also mentioned, to be honest I've never really rated him

I'd argue Cisse's form is more due to the playing style and system same goes for all our players.

So i'd say Pardew is the flop :coffee:

Santon, Ba, Ben Arfa aside they have all been crap or injured

You mean Gerrard of Liverpool, who has got 2 goals and 2 assists in 7 league games so far?
