Who is Marco Van Basten?

Goal.com has an article on this guy and they say that he is AC Milan's top attacker of all time. I watched some you tube videos and i have to agree that this guy was unbelievable. Do most AC Milan fans agree?

What about Shevchenko?

Yes at least he is top 3

Easily one of my favourite players to watch. Amazing finisher and had this certain elegance/he'd just glide past players. Well worth trying to find some footage of him and giving it a watch.

Van Basten brought the canons of the modern attacker to the climax : agility, speed, power, positioning and a technique that remained quintessential despite his height. Never has a player in his role reunited all those conditions in equal measure.

In the years and decades before his Advent, a centre-forward was essentially a target man relying on his monstruous physical power to get past defenders. Charles, Nordahl or Gigi Riva are prime examples of this. A centre-forward wasn't expected to participate to the game, nor could he have, given his attributes. Van Basten on the other hand could very well have played in midfield or defence, thanks to his great ability to read the game.

The greatest no 9 I'd say to grace the beautiful game. Keep in mind that he had to retire prematurely at the age of 26.

he's forever my favorite football player. Was too young for this guy :/

Ibra has mostly played as target man throughout his career, yes he constantly drops back, especially in the last few years, but there is still no closer comparison to Van Basten than Ibra, although i consider Ibra to be better (before anyone instantly flips out just remeber this is only my opinion.)

Coincidently Ibra and Van Basten met in Ajax when Ibra played there and he coached Ibra on certain things, Ibra says they got along well and constantly joked around. When he went to Milan he had a private talk with Berlusconi when he arrived in the city, Silvio told him he reminded him of another player he had... You guys know where this is going.

I'd say Van Basten himself didn't reunited all the qualities in equal measure. He was very fast and agile, especially for someone his size, but i think his technique easily surpassed his physical qualities, exactly like Zlatan.

IMO Van Basten was one of the all time greats and yes, should be considered above Shevchenko as Milans all time best striker.

I just wish I was a little older so I could witness that great Milan side first hand.

He has always been a SS with AM tendencies.

I'm not biased to van basten but seriously he was a different class to ibra imo. This comparison flatters ibra a lot imo

Agree with this. van Basten is one of the all time greats.

Van Basten was Milan's best ever center forward .

Didn't matter how , the ball would get iinn . Had Van Basten not been forced to retire at the age of actualy 26-something , he would be Milan's top scorer today , without a single shred of doubt .
