Bells
Right decision , this year he showed to be definitely finished. But at least he was on time to become the first player in Premier League history to score for seven different clubs , when he scored against Norwich this year.

This thread needed a major bump with so many legends hanging em up this season, among them Tarzan Puyol!!!! So during the WC let's pay homage as more names are sure to come.

Reporter: Do you see yourself ending your career at PSG?

Ibra: "When my contract runs out, i will be 34 years of age. I don't see myself continuing at this level past that age. So the answer to your question is probably yes."

Nah he knows he is at his peak and when the next tournament comes, he will only be a hindrance for the upcoming defenders. He doesn't want to force himself in the team. Has won the WC so retiring at an all time high

Plus now he can give his all to Arsenal Proud

He can always come out of retirement if Germany are in some crisis defensively.

Howedes, Boateng, Badstuber, Hummels are all the future and frankly will be in better shape. Not that they are better than him. Only Hummels is better than Mertesacker marginally.

I read that Merte wants to have more time for his family (just got the 2nd kid with his wife) and Arsenal. And retiring with the World Cup isn't the worst of times.

No use being a bench player for them from his perspective when there are better CB options for Germany.Certainly made the wise choice to retire on a high :coffee:

Well, moreover, he has 104 (!) caps for Germany. That's quite an achievement in itself.

And the next big player who quits international duty is Frank Lampard who says good-bye to the English NT after winning 106 caps.
