Chelsea set sights on Italy's Antonio Conte as long-term replacement for José Mourinho:
Italy manager Antonio Conte has emerged as the leading candidate for the Chelsea job, with the Italian understood to have met with club officials before Christmas and is preparing to resume discussions before the end of the Barclays Premier League season in May and ahead of Euro 2016 in France

In all honesty, how many clubs keep managers beyond 3-4 seasons?

Arsenal and Atletico are the only two I can think of.

Even People like Pep don't hang around for long.

All of Juve, Chelsea, Utd, City, Liverpool, Barca, Madrid, PSG, Napoli, Milan, Inter, Fiorentina, Spurs, and Dortmund have all replaced managers in the last 4 seasons. Bayern will soon be replacing theirs, too.

I think, in this day in age, 3 years is long term.

Antonio Conte is reportedly close to becoming the new coach of #Chelsea after #Euro2016 via @AAlciato (Sky Italia)

Not sure how I feel about Conte, tbh.

But he seems the most likely at present.

I'll take any reports of that kind this early on with a grain of salt.

We would be better off just erecting a white flag affixed to a metal pole in the manager's seat in the dugout in this case. It would be a.) highly representative of the state of the club going forward, and b.) both cheaper and no less effective than the above alternative.

So without Pep, our options next season become smaller. So I would like everyone to Rank our potential new managers in order from most preferred to least preferred.

The list of probable managers:
1. Simeone
2. Conte
3. Sampaoli
4. Pellegrini
5. Allegri
6. Pochettino

feel free to add any I have missed.

My personal choices would be:
1. Simeone
2. Sampaoli
3. Conte
4. Allegri
5. Pellegrini
6. Pochettino

Not really. We were never serious contenders for him anyway. If he had any interest in managing us he'd have been appointed either the summer after our CL win instead of a permanent contract for Robbie or as a successor to FSW a year later. I've never seen him as a plausible possibility.

Anyway:

1. Simeone
2. Allegri
3. Conte
4. Pochettino
5. Pellegrini

I've omitted Sampaoli altogether as I know little to nothing about him and wouldn't want to taint my rankings by having to place someone I don't know into it against other candidates I do.

Sampaoli was Chile's manager, he made them play very high intensity football, I think it could work for us, tbh.

I personally think Conte is better than Allegri, but both a close for me, tbh.

Yea I've read that. Still, wouldn't be fair for me to rate him.

Yea, that's a close one for me too. I favoured Allegri because he more or less replicated Conte's feats with Juve, only added in instantaneous Champions League success (relatively speaking) as well. He also lost a number of his best players this summer, started off the season in dire form much like us, yet not long after got them right back on track (in the way Mourinho wasn't able to for us despite a superior squad) and has them competing right at the top of the table again. Perhaps what happens at the Euros this summer will change that (provided they conclude before we've hired anyone), but for now I think Allegri edges it.

I can understand that, my reasoning for Conte over Allegri is that Conte will be more available, has been learning English and created this great Juve side, which I think, could well be what we need.

His underperformance in the Champions League must be a concern though. Surely a manager who ticks both boxes (domestic and European) is what we'd optimally be looking for, and I'm not sure the board would be convinced he does.

If he performs poorly at the Euros I can't really see him even being in the running.
