Orlando City to MLS in 2015
Don't really have words right now, but just excited to say that Orlando City will now officially be joining New York FC as the newest MLS expansion teams in 2015.
By the way that is in fact 22,000 people at a third tier American soccer game, and now we're coming for the MLS
By the way, this is who we are targeting for our first DP signing, to hopefully go with Graham Zusi and Dax McCarty coming home

Re: Orlando City to MLS in 2015
Going to be an interesting year heading into 2015 though, the Citrus Bowl is being renovated, and the University of Central Football Coach George O'Leary won't let anyone use the football stadium other than the UCF Football team. So we are trying to find a place to play next season heading into our first season of MLS.
Going to suck going to a facility which can only fit 4,000 people when we're used to such large turnouts. However, I think we'll be fine now that we'll be setting up shop potentially in this beauty

Was hoping more from Miami, as I visit there more oftenly but was this due to the Beckham rumors or just because?

Re: Orlando City to MLS in 2015
Thanks CBarca.
Personally, I really hope the Miami franchise doesn't happen as it is being very haphazardly put together. Nevermind that overall Miami is a shit sports town. However, with Beckham as the face of the organization I think they will end up with a team despite it making little to no sense other than being an attractive destination for players.
I was really hoping Beckham would wake up and join the Orlando ownership group considering what the "Beckham brand" would be able to do with Disney behind it. Oh well, he's apparently losing it off the field as well these days
We were always in line to be the next expansion team even before Manchester City jumped the line with their millions to get New York City FC going.Donuts wrote:Was hoping more from Miami, as I visit there more oftenly but was this due to the Beckham rumors or just because?

Beckham Miami franchise is just a matter of when. Probably 2016 since MLS still wants to expand its league. Might be along with San Antonio.Donuts wrote:Was hoping more from Miami, as I visit there more oftenly but was this due to the Beckham rumors or just because?
Beckham will be the sole owner and president of his franchise.. a reason why Miami will get a team, plus it was in the fine print of his MLS contract.

Gratz Moto
I, for one, am an admire of Orlando City these days.
Roma needs to set up a partnership with them since we already have the Disney deal. Maybe something with the youth players there in Orlando or even an annual game.

Yes, George O'Leary is still coaching, I think we need to move on but he's basically built the UCF program so he's not leaving anytime soon
I was really hoping for a Roma partnership as they are more in line with the style of football we currently play. Odd that our owners are also on the board of Stoke, yet we have managed to purvey the football sex style as opposed to hoof ball.
The Miami deal really makes no sense. I live in Florida, it's a time bomb waiting to happen, and I hope the league has the cojones to stand strong on this one.

Re: Orlando City to MLS in 2015
Perfect selection. Great team, love the colors/badge.
Needed a florida team and Orlando is perfect for the MLS. Miami or Tampa Bay again would have been a disaster both those cities have horrible fan bases for everything except maybe College.
Now add a team in San Fran/Oakland, St. Louis, and relegate Chivas to bring up a real ny2 in addition to nycfc, change Red Bulls name to the New Jersey Red Bulls, Give the Revolution their own stadium closer to Boston, bump up the salary cap and then Ill take this league more seriously and watch on a regular basis.

Yeah, I agree completely with moving the Revs into Boston, and giving an expansion team to St. Louis (arguably the best sports town in the Midwest).
I'm waiting to find out the formal Stadium designs as they are starting to float around the internet. Here is another possible design of our new digs:
I still prefer the first one I posted as I love the classic look and feel of the stadium, but I wonder how it will look in the "projects."

See, I go on vacation, come back and now it's official
Our owner even essentially said Kaka will be a member of our team in 2015.

Why doesn't football in America operate a pyramid structure like pretty much every where else does?
Surely for the sport to flourish and expand is to have a selection of leagues with promotion and relegation.

Why, is it the prospect of relegation that scares them off?Motogp69 wrote:Would never work for American investors.The_Badger wrote:Why doesn't football in America operate a pyramid structure like pretty much every where else does?

I would normally agree if it wasn't for the personal relationship with our owner who is very close with him and ridiculously wealthy.

if they opened a club in Miami I can see a lot of older players prefer to come to Miami rather then Orlando for obvious reasons..
Disneyland only gets boring after the second time you go whereas Miami Beach and nightlife never dies.

Re: Orlando City to MLS in 2015
I think Miami makes sense in terms of drawing talent, but it's not going to look so great on national television playing in a half empty stadium with all those "stars".
Wish I could of been there, but here is the march into the announcement by some of the supporter groups:
