Ed got what was coming for him. His campaign was awful, labour should sack their spin doctor asap. And denying Labour bled the country dry that was probably the last drop

Ed and Nick retained their seets so they are not gone but they stepped down as party leaders as expected. Ed balls lost his seat thank god this alone will ensure Labour do alot better in the next election

One thing I'm really not looking forward to is the EU referendum. This election has proved that large amounts of the population can be easily swayed by the bullshit fed to them, and if the Eurosceptics get any sort of proper traction we are all f**ked.

The upside is that all the businesses and party leaders want to stay in the EU, but never underestimate the stupidity of masses.

The silent Tories, who only seem to pop out of hiding on election days for some reason, f**ked up the country once again due to falling for the scaremongering by the right wing press about SNP, so of course people are losing their shit

The worst part about this is places like Cornwall, *bleep* Cornwall, the poorest area in the UK, voted in the *bleep* Tories. I mean WTF?! It's like a poor US southerner voting in the Republicans, it makes absolutely no sense.

I know people down there who said that everyone was shocked because they all expected the Lib Dem candidate to be re elected due to the good work they had done, but the silent Tories once again *bleep* things up.

Working class got *bleep* over.

Police, Nurses, teachers and Firemen etc all struggling due to how badly Cameron cut the budget in the last 5 years are all dreading the next 5 years.

The line between the rich and the poor is increasing with every year.

Has anyone actually found someone who voted for the Tories? I'm going through Facebook, Twitter, Reddit etc and all I see is people complaining about the result, not a single Tory voter among them.

I guess it's not surprising since 36% of people voted for them whilst 64% did not, so you're more likely to find someone who didn't vote for the Tories, but surely with such a large win margin for them there would be a few smug supporters going around trolling people?

Unless they've maybe realised their mistake and are now making preparations to leave the country

Nope. All of my facebook voted for Labour.

Voting system is outdated. 36% picked tories, so why are they representing the 64% who didn't? It doesn't make sense.

2.5m votes went to Greens and UKIP and they have 2 seats combined while less than 1.5m votes went to SNP and they have over 55 seats.

Nice thing about the UK system is that it keeps fringe (extremist) parties out of the system. For example if it worked like in Germany then UKIP would have obtained like 56 votes vs 1.

People don't seem to ever boast about their chosen party winning, mainly because most people most of us probably know aren't exactly obsessed with politics, and don't want to discuss it after the voting is done.

But like I said I figured i'd find like ONE pro-tories article or vocal person but I have only seen 2012 esque doomsday stuff

I don't know what is extreme about UKIP. Obviously extreme depends on the persons perspective, and no matter where they sit on the spectrum, whether it's in the stranger terrain of the loony left, that's going to seem normal to them, and something centre right is going to be extreme. 1 in 8 adults in UK voted UKIP, I think it's even more in England, and plenty more are out there who were frightened by the SNP or by the spectre of Ed Milibands communist father into "tactically voting" for the Tories. That amount of support is not "fringe" im sorry to say....

I used to have the impression that Twitter was a left wing electronic mob (as someone else put it), and maybe it is overall. But if you want to find some Tories, guess what - you'll have to follow them rather than surround yourself with like-minded individuals. There are actually a lot of Tories on Twitter, a lot of kippers as well for that matter.

What's next for UKIP now DTW?

Very new to the British election system and have been following this since it's been a huge story over here in the States.

What I can't understand is how UKIP got millions of votes, but only came out with like 1 or 2 seats? ...sure they're xenophobic morons, from the sounds of it anyway, but surely everyone has a right for their views to be heard and represented? Even if they are disgusting.

How is that possible?

UK use a system called first past the post were the candidate with the most votes in a constituency is voted in as the winner. It doesn't matter whether UKIP had 3 million votes country wide and lib dems only 1 mill. If the lib dem votes were concentrated in a small number of constituencies to vote their MPs in it wouldn't have mattered about the number of votes UKIP got which were scattered around the country

People want proportional representations which would've allowed UKIP to have more seats in the parliament. First past the post encourages "tactical voting" were people vote for a party MP that wouldn't really have an impact on the final result which is why you saw tories urging people to vote for Ukip to allow conservatives to get most votes in some constituencies than the labour MPs

It's a system used to favour the big two parties, there are a number of "safe" seats were nobody can touch them that's why Labour made such a big loss this election. Most of their "safe" seats in Scotland were lost to the SNP
