UEFA Coefficient development for the next seasons

I get the sense that there is extreme optimism for EPL in this thread. Granted so far this year they are finally competing in both CL and EL, but way to soon to think they will stop Serie A from overtaking them and certainly way to early to think Bundesliga will begin to drop down. You can't overcome 2 or 3 horrendous results in a a single year. And certainly you can't get indications of what direction after just group play.

About the only thing one can conclude at this stage, is the recent Europe play of EPL teams (and improving Serie A teams) have stopped the rise of Russia, Portugal and France from creeping into top 4.

Ha, now how many points d you get with Man U, Arsenal and possibly Chelsea out?

Each would fail to collect 5 bonus points if they don't progress to the knock outs, although they could more than make up for it if they make a deep dive into the EL. United is already out so that's 5 points that EPL will not get.

They would probably deem the capital one cup a more important comp.

I would, and will, bet on United or Arsenal kicking out Roma and Napoli. Be careful what you wish for.

Don't know about Roma, they'll probably make the CL knockouts.

But Napoli will start as favorites against United or Arsenal anyway (:

The Juventus loss was a blow for the Italian co-efficient this round unless Roma win and Chelsea and Arsenal lose.

Pretty bad CL week for Italian coefficients.Terrific week for EPL on the other hand.

La Liga only league where all teams are still alive in CL/EL competitions.

Until the 3 Italian and 2 English Europa League teams play, the week is not determined. But Italy will not gain this round. But remember, Serie A have a nearly 4 point advantage to start next season.

When you start dividing the points gained by the number of teams Italy has an advantage. Divided by 6 for Italy and divided by 8 for England has an effect.

And Gladbach will definitely learn from their CL campaign. It was their first one after all and they didn't look so bad in the group of death. In a way this reminded me of Dortmund's 2011/12 campain when they ended up 4th in their group, too, despite showing some nice football.

Suppose Spurs and Leicester make the CL. How do you guys see them doing in such a key season for the 4th spot battle?

Could see Spurs doing quite well, they play in a way which translates well in Europe and they'll likely keep their best players and invest further.

Leicester Wouldn't even be surprised if they get KO'ed in the qualifiers.

Would be so funny if City finished 4th and then didn't reach the group stage in Pep's first games.

Spurs are on the up. They have a good coach, good players and all of their key players are young and improving. They look good for the forseeable future, IMO, and I think they'll do well in the CL (should they make it, which I think they will).

It's funny because people (lol Rodgers) were really hard on them for their spending after the Bale sale, but it has all really started to come together for them. I really enjoy watching their games.

Leicester...hard to say. I think they can do well though.

It's almost as if success comes when you buy young, talented players and give them time instead of giving up on them after 6 months.

Well, most of the Bale money did go to waste; Paulinho, Soldado, Capoue, Chiriches - and even their top-3 player Lamela has for some weird reason lately been benched...

It's mostly been after that summer that they've made good choices for their team.

With so many EPL/Serie A matches coming up, it will be a zero sum game.

Anyways it's beginning to look pretty clear that England will win this season. Neither has a team taking the EL seriously (Spurs and Napoli would justifiably rather focus on the league judging by the teams they fielded today and the rest have no chance) but Italy won't have any team progress this stage of the CL whereas Man City probably will and Chelsea remain within upset distance.
