Monroe getting the max isn't a bad deal by next summer(his max is ~16m) he did average 20/13 when he played center.

I don't disagree but if you are the Lakers and you are refusing to overpay because you are waiting for 2016 and 17' like Freeza said then you don't give Monroe the max lol.

Its always these "6'11" guys who refuse to be known as centers...Duncan, Garnett, Jermaine O Neal.

Because it's easier to remembered historically at PF than it is at Center

Well tbf they would have done if they played center.... you are then suddenly up against Shaq, Russell, Wilt, Kareem etc instead of Barkley and Malone. ( no offense to them but the 4 Cs are a level above.

Yeah I get you, but Duncan would still a 5 time champ with unrivalled longevity, even superior to Kareem and Kobe.

And KG would still have been a trendsetting big man who could guard points guards and play with an all around game we havent seen before or since from a big man other than perhaps Hakeem.

What I mean is, I dont think anyone really ranks them now like who is above who and their overall "legacy" would have been the same because of the players they are.

Kevin Garnett and Duncan as much as they hates it, were taller than Hakeem and probably weighed more (or the same 240-250) in each's prime. And just like Hakeem, played with bigger players (Robinson, Perkins, Sampson) and smaller ones (Diaw, Posey, Horry) next to them up front.

If you name the all time great 4s', you probably stuck after 6 or 7...with 5's you may reach 12 or more.

Malone, Barkely, Garnett, Duncan, Dirk and McHale...who else? Id go Webber next but then I REALLY dont know.

It just wasn't a high quality position before the 90s for a multitude of reasons.

Maybe Elvin Hayes but that's about it.

In general i'd include Rodman too, but after that you are really scraping the barrel.

I never seen Rodman like that really...im really not sure. He to me was just a truly elite role player. Maybe its because he played with Thomas and Dumars then Jordan and Pippen (and even Shaq and Kobe after that) that you could only even consider him a third wheel no matter what but I dunno...its a bit like can we consider Ben Wallace an all time great?

I think if you start a team from scratch, and you had the first pick...you might not pick Rodman over alot of guys we wouldnt even dream of naming in this discussion (Shawn Kemp, Derrick Coleman, Rasheed Wallace, Jermaine O Neal that year he scored 50 something points, Amare that year he averaged 25 a game).

If you already have Jordan and Pippen then yeah, you probably pick him over any of these guys easily.

Fine with not getting Monroe, If we get Lopez. I'd rather have him. Better defender and will likely cost less. Still really young too.

After that maybe flip for David Lees expiring
