Yeah, and he probably even got the chance to do it because of Van Wilder and Waiting, since those movies were both out before he started talking about the project 11 years ago. He got the job because of previous work, but got the movie made because of his love for it. He possibly even leaked the test footage (him or the director or writer).

Re: The Official Comicbook Movies Thread: Part 2
From a 2004 issue of Cable & Deadpool, prior to Waiting's release:
If you're basing this purely off of Van Wilder, then you're basically just stating that he got a largely comedy role because he was in a comedy film. The lines in Deadpool feel like Reynolds lines because they were, in all reasonable sense, created FOR Reynolds. The entire movie, after its will-it-won't-it back and forth over being made and ridiculously long path to being made, ended up being a movie built around Ryan Reynolds, so OF COURSE its going to feel like his better previous works, they had time specifically tailor it to his strengths. This is not the same Deadpool movie that was potentially on the table back when it was first mooted, assuming at that point there even was enough there to be considered a proper project.

just came back from deadpool. Ridiculously well executed movie. The humour didnt feel forced and the fight scenes were top notch. Alot of good references aswell. All in all great movie, the hype is legit. Lies somewhere between 8.5-9/10. One of if not my favourite Marvel movie sofar.

So Deadpool opened with $135m domestic and $260m world wide this weekend. Absolutely insane for an r-rated property. Just a testament to great marketing really.

Casuals love deadpool. Always have for some reason. Know so many people who are not into comicbook films but love deadpool more than their parents.
And its actually a film most can enjoy with the combo of humour and action.

I don't know anybody who knows Deadpool, or knew him before this marketing started. We were two who knew him. Only started to hear about him because of Origins. Average people don't know him at all from my experience.

Yeah he's being talked about a lot among non comic book fans for the unique marketing. Great job by the marketing team.

Rather astounding given the movie's budget was only $50-60m. Excluding marketing, this movie more than doubled its budget on opening weekend in the US alone.

It's an amazing feat for a movies to be profitable after the opening weekend. Every cent this movie earns from now on is profit. Insane really.
Fox really is a weird studio. To think this movies had so much freedom and Fantastic Four had none is astounding. Really goes to show how important Ryan Reynolds was for this film. His stubbornness really made this a huge succes.

Mini-Groot suggests Vol.2 starts pretty soon after the first, so no real time skip I suppose.

I wonder which direction they will head towards. There might be a bit of an infinity war set up but i hope most of the film is revolved around just those guys and nothing to do with Avengers etc.

Just back from Deadpool
Great film. Ryan Reynolds killed it. Loved Colossus as well. Can't wait for the sequel with cable. Shame we will never see Wolverine and Deadpool together. Or Deadpool and Spiderman.
Also Daario naharis ffs lmao
7.8/10

More interested on the villain inb4 the dad is the villain.
So far these are the people who James Gunn shot down on being the father.
Emperor Jason (Star Lord's dad in the comics).
The first Captain Marvel (was rumored).
Kim Jong Un

Adam Warlock? I can see he's got some power called Energy manipulation. Didn't his mom say his father was like a ray of light or something?

If Kurt Russell is playing the dad, then its not Adam Warlock, way too old. I really hope Gunn does not scrap out Warlock altogether, would be bummed out if MCU does not have Thanos's greatest enemy. Then again, we had Ultron without Hank Pym because of Edgar Wright's shenanigans.

Warlock/Magus has too much there to be wasted by being shoehorned into a role like that.

Rewatching all DC film up to BvS. Just watched Batman Begins. The action is so freaking shit, it's some of the worst I've ever not seen, because you're unable to.
