I will never forget this... go Greece....
At least he gets his country, who has had little to no NT success in its history, into a final and later rounds. What is Messi's excuse? Argentina has been an abject failure over and over again since he became part of it. Not saying it's all his fault... but he does disappear in games when things don't go his way.
Btw, CR7 was 19-20 years old in 2004 and helped carry the team. Was his breakout tournament.
The same was true for messi in the copa america 07. Im talking about when messi and cr7 became the best player for their respective NT and imo messi has been more impressive when he has played for his NT..

Are you serious? Messi is no where near Maradona or Pele, in fact he is a step below Cruyff, Zidane, Baggio etc.

Dude, hop off CR's D, is that all you guys like to do, bash madrid, mou, and CR7?harhar11 wrote:izzy26 wrote:Lionel Messi wrote:Look at who I was quoting, I wouldn't bring him up for making Messi look better, comparing the two was so 2009.izzy26 wrote:Lionel Messi wrote:I didn't bring him up
Who did then?
Crimson used him as an example, harhar then proceded defensive mode and bashed him. Very predictable.
How did I bash him? Everyone in this forum forgets how awful cristiano ronaldo plays for portugal...
Last time I checked he helped portugal to a semi final finish in the world cup.
Ronaldo has been better then messi, though not by much I admit.
What's with it with you barca fans? FFS You guys act like 10 year olds at times.

Re: Argentina going home...
Does everything in the forum turn into CR7 vs Messi? They both have a lot more to accomplish in their respective national teams. And Messi getting the blame? I don't see how that works.

Re: Argentina going home...
Argentina without Messi would be a complete disaster, he's the linchpin holding it together. Argentina is never going to be able to win anything unless they can get a decent defense, it's obvious and has been for some time now.sportsczy wrote:Comparing the talent and expectation of Portugal with Argentina is pretty strange. Portugal is a small country who has always been very meh as far as the NT goes. They had only qualified for 2 WCs between 1966 and 1998. They made it to the WC finally in 2002 (losing in pool play). Since CR7 has played a major role, they went to the semi in 2006 and the 1/8 elimination round in 2010. This is the best run by far for the Portugal NT. Same story with the Euro.
CR7 has improved his country's performance on the world stage. Argentina's Messi has underachieved.
I still think Messi is the better individual player. But in terms of impact under different circumstances, CR7 has done a lot more.

Re: Argentina going home...
We just don't have an attacking playmaker to build the team around like used to have in the past. Need a sensible coach.Ganso wrote:you guys have the best attack in the world, might as well have scored another goal and make it 2-1.

Re: Argentina going home...
Every chance created for Argentina aside from one maybe two was directly from Messi, the other attackers aside from Higuain were pretty useless last night, nobody else on the team can create a chance out of nothing when Messi doesn't.Ganso wrote:you guys have gago,di maria and messi as the creative force and aguero with higuain to finish. Not sure what else is needed

Re: Argentina going home...
So the poopstorm is over.
First, Messi did play well in this game . Finally showed up for the NT, too bad the game was lost.
Second, Muslera was just immense. Don't know why Wiggles was surprised at him being the MOTM.
Third, why does everyone expect Messi to score 5 against a great team like Uruguay?
Finally, Uruguay will win this tourney.

there are knee jerk artists on this forum. They would have you believe that Maicon is still the best around. We all saw what happened to him last season, Open butt surgery.

He had an awful game, and i dont rate him defensively but i rate him higher than people give him credit for i have seen him be boss defensively for Barca and its not down to possession.
Anyway calling him a bad defender for that game is like saying Messi is a crap player lol.
Also if your going to drop him why dont you drop Lucas, Neymar and Thiago Silva because they were just as bad in the first 2 games.

You want me to bash your country then? I am rating Chile higher than Brazil in this Copa, isn't that a positive thing?

No, Alves isactually good at Attacking and he's really Technical for a WB so he's far from being a bad player. He's actlly one of the best WB's I've ever seen.
I would drop Neymar and Jadson, for Nilmar and Kaka anyday.
