Fact is, he's not worth it. No 19 year old is a worth 70m fee. He was far too expensive, and he will have been far too expensive even if he scores 30 goals next season.
Doesn't mean he wasn't a great addition or he isn't a fantastic player.
Worth it to who? What an arbitrary statement. A player is worth what a team is willing to pay for him and what a club is willing to accept. I'm not sure why this is such a difficult concept for people to understand.
Then let me put it in another way.
He was worth buying as he's good, but you ridiculously overpaid. That's just a fact, don't try to argue that
If he confirms his ability, you will still have ridiculously overpaid, only noone will care, least of all your club.

Maybe we did but we can afford to...
He was worth it TO US.

Yeah it's relative. As Madrid fan, i've learned to keep perspective on all our transfers It's more important to us to get the player we want as opposed to pay a reasonable price. We'll pretty much pay whatever it takes.

Lol this is nothing to United. 10m or 90m, United are rich enough to spend it. Why does it matter so much?
In the end he has 3 goals in 3 games. He will most likely become a star and the last thing that will matter will be his price.
Rather buy 6 80m worth Martial than 1 10m worth Giroud

I realize that
Just like millionaires spend 1000€ on a pair of jeans instead of 100€.
Or 300 on a haircut instead of 30.
Being filthy rich must be expressed in some kind of way, after all.

Also Hans if he scores 30 goals in a season it will likely lead them to the league in the next couple of years and considering the money that you get for that it's definitely worth it.
People need to realize that it's a supply and demand business, if they have bought someone who will be their main striker for the next decade then that is worth endless amounts of money.
For example of a relegation standard team spent 30m on a striker and he kept them up he is worth every penny to that club.

Sure. Although the bolded part has got nothing whatsoever to do with 'supply and demand'

Here we go again. Last night it was 'politcal correctness'.
Getting into technicalities.

Of course it does, if there was more quality strikers with potential to be very good they wouldn't have to spend close to 40m on him.
Fact is though the list of quality strikers available is very small.

Re: Man Utd set to sign Monaco forward for €80m
Martial is a really cool customer... he's the type of guy who won't get overly excited, whether he's going good or bad. That's why i think he'll become a killer: with all the natural talent that he has, the most impressive part about him is how cool, calm and collected he is despite the hype.
Not saying he will be great... but he has the opportunity to be great and i don't expect him to self destruct like many hyped kids.

Martial's agent in response to Arsene Wenger comments: "In football, there are those who follow the players and those who buy them."

I haven't looked it up, but I guarantee it was something about following Martial and 'almost signing' him
