Re: Brexit: Should the UK stay or go?
the people that were on the side of leaving talked about how it will be good for schooling. housing and health care. the people that were on the side of staying were always talking about how it will be bad for business. tells you all you need to know really

from the united kingdom to england and wales with boris johnson as the PM
future looking bright if you ask me
at least until unqualified people realize that they aren't suddenly going to have an abundance of new job options and that they still have to wait years to get a comfy council house

Re: Brexit: Should the UK stay or go?
Because good for business = more and better jobs = a higher tax base to do things like schools and healthcare
Farage backed down in his NHS promise within a few hours of Brexit
Now it seems to me that 50% is not a high enough threshold for such a momentous decision? Especially if the gap is only 3%? Some decisions should require a super majority

Re: Brexit: Should the UK stay or go?
150k conservative voters will decide the next PM for us. Which is either going to be Boris the clown or Michael Gove, the worst education secretary we have had in the last 50 years.
I wasn't a fan of David Cameron but going from him to either of those two is absolutely disgraceful. Specially the fact that none of us are voting for them.

Thousands of leave voters are fuming because they voted out based on that propaganda.
There are people crying all over social media that they massively regret voting leave lol. Says "they didn't think it would be like this"

Re: Brexit: Should the UK stay or go?
People who voted out expecting immigration to fall will be disappointed says Dan Hannan.
Not that surprising. European immigrants will just be replaced by Asians/Africans/Australians. Who will have a lot easier time now coming into the UK than before.

Yes but those immigrants will be skilled and the people we need not unskilled labourers willing to work for pittance driving down wages

We are highly unlikely to adopt a system which will get people in based on skill points though. Specially if it's labour in charge next elections which is a possibility.

If you take it too personal, that's your bloody problem. It doesn't take a scientist to realise how dumb a decision this is.
And what? You think the EU are just going to bend over and let the UK get whatever favorable trade deals they want? They're going to go out of their way to make it as hard as possible for us. They'll use us as a "scaptegoat" for any other country thinking of leaving the EU. AT THE VERY BEST, we'll get deals that bring us right back to where we were before the referendum, at which point, what would then have been the point of crashing the economy and tanking our currency to a 31 year low? Hell, they can even decide to be petty and add conditions of us accepting x number of immigrants as part of any deal. So then what would the point have been?
Throw in the inevitable breakaway of Scotland(who voted to remain in the UK BECAUSE they wanted to remain in the EU, in case you've forgotten) and possibly Northern Ireland and this whole talk of "we have the 5th largest economy in the world, we'll bounce back" goes straight out the window. Say hello to England & Wales.
What an absolutely brilliant move. Congratulations.
Need more proof that idiots voted leave? Take a look at the huge outcry from the uneducated/misinformed/ignorant/deceived bunch who are regretting their leave votes.
Again, if you take it personal, that's your bloody business. You're not obligated to goad me into anything because of that.

more engineers driving down the wages of white collar jobs less carpenters bringing up the salaries of contractors and housingDagenhamDave wrote:Yes but those immigrants will be skilled and the people we need not unskilled labourers willing to work for pittance driving down wages
If that even takes place. Most immigration increases salaries because there is higher demand from more people buying stuff.

Really?
I would've thought that it would be tighter immigration laws overall not just for EU citizens.
The visa bureaucracy around international (non-EU) students and work permits are already strict. I thought that it would get even stricter now.

Yet, apparently, I'm wrong to call them idiots.
Just look at the top trends of google searches in the UK today. Absolute disaster!
They had NO IDEA what they were even doing. Good God!

It's not that easy. Any change will take 3 years or so anyways. It all depends on which government takes over after this term is ended. If it's labour, then they were mostly pro remain so highly unlikely they will put on strict immigration policies. If it's conservative again then we will see changes in the system but it's very unlikely we will adopt an Australian based system.

I still don't get Wales
I heard they were huge benefitters of the EU, but like Cardiff was the only region who had a majority remain vote

We can only hope and pray not for such an outcome, it would be a real shame for historic and culturally rich places like London which a lot of internationals want to experience

Re: Brexit: Should the UK stay or go?
Anyways let's not jump the gun here guys. We won't know what's going to happen till some time. Everything is operating fine atm so far on a local level. Greggs are still selling pasties for the same price.
We'll just have to hope that brexit happens smoothly. Which is unlikely due to the hostility by EU members. But right now what we need is to be UNITED and actually get out of this whole drama together as a nation. We won't know the impact of this for years so no point getting into arguments n such
The truth is that we have voted out of the EU and that's going to stick. There is no 2nd referendum. Highly unlikely we will get back into the EU ever again as well. So let's just hope all the promises made by the leave campaign holds and we actually see UK improving as they promised(eventhough two are broken already).
We all want the same thing in the end afterall.

Re: Brexit: Should the UK stay or go?
some things are more important to people. I don't know why there is so much animosity over a democratic vote where people have had their say. the majority are obviously not happy with things as they are otherwise remain would have won. change in EU and UK politics was necessary and I think this was the only way to achieve it.
as RG said whats happened has happened now its time to work together and get the best for the UK

32/32 cities voted remain. Why would Scotland be going wild?

I would love nothing more than to be proven wrong, but I highly doubt it'll play out that way. Just going to hope for the best.

Apparently, Philip Green's net worth took a 20% hit this morning. Lost $900m in a matter of hours. Sheesh! Must be tough for him.

Boris as the British PM and Trump as America's president would surely be a sign of something divine. No way such personalities and hairstyles reigning together could be a coincidence.
