"My heart is telling me yes (to stay), it is a great opportunity, city and club but my brain is saying to analyse what is going on"
He's gone IMO.
Also.... Finished the season WDDWDW. Scored 12, conceded 4.
3rd in the form table, so any idiots who want to try and blame him for this can sit the *bleep* down.

He should stay imo. Newcastle is the type of club I feel he would prosper a lot in.

Not even that lol, an extra game or two would have been enough.

Ultimately if he had defeated Villa he would have stayed up, but not beating them is somewhat indefensible. Still did good work.

Nah Sunderland had better goal difference, still though i don't defend him for the Villa result. Just that in general we had too much to do.
Also yes we failed to beat Villa but we also beat Swansea and Spurs plus drew with Liverpool and City.

They shouldn't have hired McClaren to begin with.

Re: Official: Rafa Benítez to newcastle
I think he'll stay, mostly because there aren't that many good options for him. Unless return to Valencia is possible. I don't see him in Italy, Germany or France. In the Prem Everton and Watford are the only clubs without a manager and obviously he won't be managing Everton and Watford isn't that appealing. There's some talk about Koeman going to Everton, but I don't get why he'd swap Southampton - and thus vacating the manager position there - for Everton when Soton are much stronger right now. Where would Rafa go?

I blame Chelsea. If they didn't choke that 2 goal lead and lose to Sunderland, Newcastle would've stayed up.

Re: Official: Rafa Benítez to newcastle
Rafa Benitez nearing agreement to stay at #Nufc. After breakthrough talks with Ashley, today's meeting with Charnley was positive.
Potential budget will be discussed tomorrow, but Benitez already looking at possible signings. Nothing finalised, but mood v optimistic.
Carr expected to leave #Nufc as part of restructuring. Other offers for Benitez always possible, but things have moved quickly & well.
From George Caulkin at the times, let the fap begin

Rafa staying will be huge
Going down might be a good thing for Newcastle in the long run, give players like Aarons and Mitrovic playing time and confidence and surely come right back up, and clear out some of the dead weight players

No player who has the option to play at the top level of any league will stay in a 2nd division team... unless they get really paid more than they would otherwise. So I expect some big turnover.

I disagree, would be quite easy to convince some to stay if Rafa can get them to believe we'll be up in one season which under him we should.
Some will go obviously but I don't think the turnover will be quite as big as it would have been without him.

Re: Official: Rafa Benítez to newcastle
Don't think too many of the players will leave either .Most said the same about QPR last season and most of them stayed in championship .
Maybe the likes of Sissoko will leave but will be good riddance anyway.
Newcastle will walk the league next season if Rafa stays .So shouldnt really hard to convince them to stay for one more year

It isn't like he couldn't get a much better job if he wanted to.
Rafa should be respected for staying if he does, managers with his credentials would almost never take on a job this difficult.

Massive respect to him if he does stick with Newcastle tbh. Wouldn't expect a big manager to do that

Re: Official: Rafa Benítez to newcastle
Of course he could get a better job lol, he's just come off managing Madrid and Napoli lol.
No matter how it went, better teams than Newcastle in the state we are in the championship would obviously offer him jobs.

From Real Madrid to Championship...

@CaulkinTheTimes
Barring disaster - none foreseen - Benitez will be reconfirmed as #NUFC manager next week. Long few days of nitty-gritty, positive talks.
Looking forward to next season now
