You could always watch BvS ultimate cut and Civil War if the latter one is out yet.
My favourite movie this year is The Nice Guys, don't know if it's available yet.
The Brand New Testament (belgium film) is also a lot of fun.

My least favourite of his tbh. Didn't really get it.
Loved the performances though. Sandler is amazing.

It was weird. Seemed like a Charlie Kaufman film, not a huge fan of that guy.
Can't wait for his fashion movie with DDL though.

Adaptation and Being John Malkovich were just too crazy for me. I liked them and they were good movies and I can see the appeal, but I'm certainly not a fan of his.

Really liked Punch Drunk Love. When Sandler plays roles like that, it's easy to like him and see how talented he is. Then he goes and sells out for the bigger paycheck and then I'm back to indifference towards him.

Adam Sandler is the GOAT friend tbh. He's giving his fans what they want meanwhile he's getting all of his friends payed.
Wish he was my friend tbh.
I actually enjoy his shit comedies for what they are. That's my boy was so absurd I loved it.

Re: The Movie House - Part 7
Some upcoming movies (outside of the obvious ones) that have my interest so far:
Blood Father - Mel Gibson returns to his action roots. Liked Edge of Darkness so I will probably like this too.
Birth of a Nation - Lotsa hype for this one already. The Nat Turner story is a visceral one for me, reading history, so it will be interesting to see it.
Underworld: Blood Wars - Charles Dance is in it....oh and Kate Beckinsale too.
Inferno - Enjoyed the books and Ron Howard/Tom Hanks has done well in the other too movies in this serious. Expectation are low, but the Divine Comedy is among my favorite works to read so yeah I'm in.
Lion - Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, and Nicole Kidman seems like a great cast so color me intrigued.
Passengers - Not a big J-Law fan (she's had her moments), but with Chris Pratt, Michael Sheen and Larry Fishburne involved....and it's futuristic sci-fi, can't help, but be interested in it despite her obligatory top billing.

Silence is by far my most anticipated film out there right now. The blockbusters have burned me.
Hacksaw Ridge also, can't wait to see Mel Gibson returning to directing.

Watched Warcraft. I'm not really a WC geek, but I highly enjoyed it. That was some seriously awesome CGI. Looking forward to some sequels. A movie game adaptation done right, IMO.
Also watched Kingsman: awesome!

Re: The Movie House - Part 7
I'm really fed up Rotten Tomatoes' system. I think it's way too reductive about films. It uses a weird binary rating from a limited amount of critics to judge movies. If they want to use this system I really feel they need more options than 2 to affect the movie's score.
Not a fan of aggregators in general as I find them reductive and reduces real film criticism to a number instead of reading reviews and critiques and taking a part of a discussion.
It's basically what Siskel & Ebert was back in the day, where they could hurt a movie in the US if it didn't get "two thumbs up". The new aggregators and critics really offer no nuance and it pains me.
Rotten Tomatoes' system in particular is the worst at this, it values safe choices and is too hard on movies taking a risk.

Re: The Movie House - Part 7
My movie buddie and I talked the other day and we finally realised it was going to be a shit year for movies
No prominent auteurs releasing this year (except Marty). Blockbusters failing and/or splitting audiences. He's looking mostly forward to the McDonald's movie, and the thing I'm probably looking most forward to is Silence, but there's literally been no marketing so I don't know what to expect.
Movies such as Denis Villeneuve's, Malick's, Cianfrance's, Chazelle's got me lowkey anticipating, but nothing I'm really hyped up and eager to see at this moment of time tbh.

There's so need for marketing for Silence when it isn't relasing before January, it's an Oscar movie. I'm willing to bet everything I own on it being great. Scorsese has wanted to make it for 40 years or something.
The Accountant, The Founder and Live By Night can all be part of this Oscar season.
Also Fassbender and Vilander's film with Cianfrance looks great.
Manchester By The Sea, Jeff Nichols' new film and Villeneuve also got one.
These upcoming 6 months gonna be great.
Don't agree with you auteur statement though.
Only Fincher, Tarantino and Nolan missing of the big ones right?

Re: The Movie House - Part 7
Well yeah. They're probably the only ones along with Marty and then I would throw in PTA, Wes Anderson and Todd Haynes as the other ones I consider auteurs.
Malick I would call an experimenter and visual artist.
Villeneuve is probably closest to auteur status from the new wave of directors, but Sicario I personally felt was a diversion from his usual style and rest of his filmography.
Btw, I forgot that Xavier Dolan and Marion Cotillard got a movie coming out this year. That could be great as well.
Didn't know Jeff Nichols had another movie coming out this year

Re: The Movie House - Part 7
Malick is an auteur in every sense of the term.
Auteur theory is general is such a vague term. I'm very much against a lot of what Andrew Sarris describes it to be, because he places some value into the quality of the movies which are, imo, inherently subjective.
An auteur is basically = a distinct style. Auteur theory was created to judge directors and the quality of their films. Basically the thought is that everyone can make a great film, and everyone can make a bad film. But consistency is the key, which can be seen in a style, themes etc.
So great filmmakers and auteurs will make maybe 10 films where 8 are great, while the bad filmmaker makes 1 great out of 10.
Basically an auteur must make great films. And a second requirement is "The second premise of the auteur theory is the distinguishable personality of the director as a criterion of value. Over a group of films, a director must exhibit cer- tain recurrent characteristics of style, which serve as his signature."
The third and last thing to determine an auteur is "The third and ultimate premise of the auteur theory is concerned with interior meaning, the ultimate glory of the cinema as an art. Interior meaning is extrapo- lated from the tension between a director’s personality and his material. This con- ception of interior meaning comes close to what Astruc defines as mise en scène, but not quite."
So to sum up a director must 1. make good movies, 2. have a cinematic style and 3. His personality must be seen in the work.
Basically I just use auteur as a term to define a director with a directorial style and visual style that can be seen in a large number of his/her works combines with their personality being inherent in their works.
The quality of their movies is very hard to judge, as it's almost always subjective what is a good movie and what is not.
It's also not a widely accepted term as actual criticism. It's more of a term that's used to review and categorize, since it's too vague. That's what my teacher says at least.

Well, yea. I agree with all of that.
Still think there have been a few shifts in style and tone in Malick's films over the years

Panic Room (2002)
Pretty good thriller. Some intense scenes. Was gutted that the black guy got arrested in the end. Didn't deserve that pay off.

Not a fan of his either. Just arguing that his film are distinct visually and they are very much true to his way of filmmaking and his personality.
I really haven't liked any film of his I think. Maybe the New World one. Don't remember it that well though

Can't wait for this tbh. Villeneuve is amazing and this can be the same. He's taking on all kinds of different projects. Seems amazing Really going all in on the sci-fi from now on it seems, much needed for the genre.
