"I thought it was right that Terry should keep the captain's armband," said Capello, whose first game in charge was on 6 February 2008, against Switzerland.

"I have spoken to the [FA] chairman and I have said that in my opinion one cannot be punished until it is official and the court - a non-sport court, a civil court - had made a decision to decide if John Terry has done what he is accused of."

Rooney and Walcott confirmed to be starting for England tomorrow.

Only one of those players deserves it.

Rooney is starting in midfield Laughing

Southgate made some bullshit excuses in his press conference. "Experience" "can control the play"

Big controversial headline, followed "although they haven't done anything illegal" rofl

Paper of the year ffs.

Anyway, gotta admire the hypocrisy of managers. Allardyce comes in swinging the axe, saying only players in form and playing for their clubs will be chosen. So Wilshere and Chamberlain get dropped. Rooney? Always playing, but hasn't been in good form for a long time. Instant starter every time.

Southgate was never going to drop him because he won't want to rock the boat knowing there's a chance he could get the job full time.

Lingard is playing pretty well. He has attributes this England team could find useful.

Shame about the midfield but no use moaning about it anymore. Maybe in the future we could pair up Dier and Henderson, if Henderson continues to improve in his new role. But eh, gotta shoehorn Rooney in somehow.

Reports saying Rooney will be dropped for tomorrow's qualifier against Slovenia.

Will believe it when I see it tbh.

Probably Dier-Henderson-Alli. Maybe Lingard and Walcott on the flanks, Sturridge up front. Wouldn't be surprised if Vardy or Chamberlain come in though, for "rotation".

Forgot Alli.

I really liked Lingaard in the last game. He is like Lallana a bit and it'd be good if he gets another chance.

Good looking team. Not a fan of Lingard from what I've seen, does he merit a NT start?
